New Release of Ads for Adobe PDF!

Today, we are happy to announce the launch of the 1.1 release of the Ads for Adobe PDF service. With this release, we have introduced a number of new features that will help improve your overall publishing experience and help you monetize your PDFs more effectively. So what are all these new great features?

Page-specific Ads

You will have the option to choose how ads are matched to your PDF.

- Choose Match ads for the entire PDF to dynamically match one set of ads to the PDF and display this same set of ads on every page. This is the current default behavior. Use this option when you have a PDF that contains only one main subject or topic (for example, a PDF article that is focused on travel to Paris). This results in the best ads since "noise" from each individual page of the PDF does not negatively sidetrack the ad matching.

- Choose Match ads for each page to dynamically match and display a different set of ads on each page. Use this option when you have a PDF that contains multiple subject or topic areas (for example, a PDF newsletter that contains three different articles - one about IPods, another about game consoles and a third about HDTV). This results in the best ads since each page is analyzed individually and will match ads specific to that page's content.

PDF Access Guidelines

In some situations, such as when a user is offline, or has a version of Adobe Reader, ads cannot be displayed with your PDF content. The default behavior is to always allow PDF content to be viewed, even without ads. However, if you rely on the ads to subsidize your content, you can restrict viewing of the PDF when ads cannot be displayed. In this case, a coversheet is displayed on the PDF which asks the user to download the latest version of the free Adobe Reader and/or connect to the network. Once those conditions are met, the coversheet is removed and the user can view your PDF content with ads.

Embed Ads Within the PDF

In addition to displaying ads in a side panel next to your PDF content, you can now display ads within the PDF content itself. You will be able to place the ads exactly where you want them in the PDF. In addition, you can choose from different ad sizes and a variety of ad color palettes, including a combination of border, background and text colors. Use of this feature requires Acrobat 9 as well as a free plug-in that adds a new ad layout menu to the existing Acrobat menus.

Bulk Ad-enablement of PDFs

If you have a large volume of PDF files, we offer a desktop application that will programmatically upload PDF files to be ad-enabled. The application allows you to specify an outbound FTP server folder where original PDF files will be retrieved for processing. The service uploads those files, ad-enables them and then delivers the ad-enabled PDFs to an inbound FTP server folder or to an email server. This application will be made available to large volume publishers later this month.
