We’re happy to report that our latest version, Preview 5, is now online. This version has lots of improvements, many of which aren’t immediately obvious – essentially, tightening things up to get us closer to a true version 1.0 word processor. Here’s a quick look at some of the visible changes in Preview 5.
More Open Access to Preview
As before, you can access Buzzword at http://preview.getbuzzword.com. If you don’t have a Buzzword account, go to www.virtub.com/signup. Here you’ll see one of our new additions – we’re opening up our Preview release to the public. We are permitting a limited number of users to sign up every day, and letting the overflow sign up to be invited in as soon as possible.
Spell Check
Spell Check is here! It’s a feature we know many of you have been waiting for. Buzzword does automatic spell checking as you write. It has a personal dictionary where you can add words specific to your writing needs. The dictionary is US English only at this point.
Endnotes
In the August release, Preview 4, we introduced Endnotes which allow you to add references, attributions or detailed discussions. With the September release, you can now click from the endnote reference number to the note itself and back again. Endnotes are also spell checked, along with the rest of the document. Find and Replace works with Endnotes, too.
One Sign In Does It All
In earlier versions, Buzzword asked you to sign in when you opened a new window. Now, you can open multiple windows when working – no need to sign in for each one! There are also new Document menu items for Open, New and Close, while you’re working in a document, in addition to the menu items in the Document Organizer.
Printing Enhancements
Even though Buzzword is the first real word processor for the web, we know that many people still want to print their documents. You’ll see new options for page size, orientation, range of pages to print and whether you want to print comments.
New Browser Support
Safari 3 on the Macintosh is now one of the supported browsers. Linux Firefox browser support is in the works, but providing some challenges for us. Please check back here for updates on our progress and when you can give it a spin. We may need your help to test.
New Buzzword Forum
As always, we’re very interested in your feedback – not just the good news, but any areas you think we need to improve. We’ve gotten lots of feedback via email (feedback@virtub.com), but we’ve now started a Buzzword user forum, http://forum.virtub.com – for discussions, comments and tips from other Buzzword users. Please join the discussions.
With your help, we’ll continue working to make Buzzword the best word processor on the web.
