New Buzzword Release, More Language Support

Posted by Tad Staley at 7:49 PM

We are very excited to announce the release of a new version of Buzzword that adds support for other languages. You might recall that our last release enabled choosing languages other than US English for spell check. With this new version of Buzzword, we now offer you the ability to choose French, German or even UK English as the language to be displayed in Buzzword menus and dialog boxes. C'est très bon, n'est-pas?

Setting Your Language Preference
To specify the language in which you want Buzzword to display the text in its menus and dialog boxes, go to the Settings and Preferences dialog box, found under the BUZZWORD menu. Here you will be able to choose US English, UK English, French (Français) or German (Deutsch).

Once you have chosen your language settings — let's say you chose Français — then Buzzword will display all text in its menus and dialog boxes in your chosen language, as shown below.

Spell Check Settings
It's important to point out that you specify the document's language (for spell checking especially) independent of Buzzword's language setting.

In other words, you can set your Buzzword language to be German, but load a document whose language is English.

BWFrenchPage3.pngTo specify the document's language, click on Spell Check Settings in the Document menu, or click on the Spell Check indicator in the lower right corner of the Buzzword screen. You will see the dialog shown at right, where you can specify your document language settings.

For more information on Acrobat.com language support, go to http://www.adobe.com/go/kb404144.

Date Display
There are various places where Buzzword displays dates, including comments, the history bar, the collaborator bar and the last saved date field.

The format used to display dates is determined by either the document's language settings or your Buzzword language setting, depending on the context.

Date formats determined by document settings:
     • Comments
     • Fields, such as last saved date

Date formats determined by Buzzword language settings:
     • History bar
     • Document information as used in the document organizer
     • Collaborator bar information

Page Size and Units
Of course, if you have chosen a language other than US English, you are probably interested in using A4 as your default page size, and perhaps centimeters for units. To change your page size, and establish a default setting, go to the Page Setup dialog box under the Document menu.

Here you can specify the paper size for the current document — the first field shown. You can also establish default values for page size here by clicking on the checkbox at the bottom of the dialog box. When you click OK, Buzzword will use the specified values whenever you create a new document.

When you first load Buzzword, the default page size is determined by the country setting you specified in your Acrobat.com account. If you chose US, Canada or Mexico as your country, the default page size is "letter"; for the rest of the world, the default is A4.

Use the Settings and Preferences dialog, shown above, to set your default units. Accounts from the US and pre-existing accounts default to inches; new accounts from outside the US default to centimeters.

Enjoyez-vous Bien!
As always, we sincerely hope you enjoy your use of Buzzword - whichever language you choose!

Don't get me wrong, Buzzword is pretty cool, but how can you claim it's the first "real" web based word processor? I've been using Google Docs since at least November 2006.

Also, are there plans to add spreadsheets, etc... a full office environment? Until then I can't see the advantage of using this over Google Docs I'm afraid.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

Why is there no way to get a document from the "My files" section to buzzword? why are they separate. Do I really have to download docs and then re upload them in order to edit them in buzzword?
