Flex Camp New Jersey

FlashPitt 2008
Flashpitt is a one-day conference for multimedia designers, developers, and artists. It's the first event of it's kind in the Pittsburgh area. National and international industry leaders will be present to share inside tips, new technologies and behind the scenes looks to Flashpitt's attendees.

This event is not just for Flash developers; there will also be sessions for Designers, Web Developers and Students just starting out in the industry. Two tracks of sessions will run from 9am until about 6pm, followed by an after party full of fun and networking opportunities.

The Actionscript Conference
The Actionscript Conference (TAC) is a community conference with the focus on Flash Platform. Attendees will find themselves immersed in a day of learning, knowledge exchange, and networking. TAC aims to bring topics on Actionscript 3.0, Flash development, Enterprise Flex, AIR, Integrating of Flash and other Platforms, and building Rich Internet Application to its audience.

TAC is organized by the Singapore Flex user group with an aim at creating conferences that are for developers, by developers.

ADC Write and Give Program donates $6200 in the Q3 of 2008

The Adobe Developer Connection (ADC) Write and Give Program gave $6200 USD to charities in the third quarter of 2008. The program acknowledges the writing efforts of our ADC community authors by giving US$100 to a charity for each author's published article on the ADC. Each author chooses his or her charity from a list of five preselected charities (listed below). In 2008, our goal is to give between $24,000-$32,000 to these charities in recognition of our ADC authors. To our ADC authors, we thank you for sharing your technical expertise with the greater developer community and helping other communities as well!

* Benetech: Creates new technology solutions that serve humanity and empower people to improve their lives. Amount given: $1320

Updated version of the ADC Developer Desktop released

Today we released an updated build for the ADC Developer Desktop. If you are unfamiliar with the ADC Developer Desktop, it is an Adobe AIR application that delivers a number of helpful resources for developers.

1. Bug Base Notifications - This module lets you find and track bugs in the Adobe public bug base at bugs.adobe.com.
2. Component Explorer - This module aggregates components for Flex that support an appcasting RSS feed.
3. RSS Reader - This RSS reader comes with a number of default feeds to help you surface information about developing with Adobe technologies. You can add or remove any feeds you want to.
4. Adobe User Groups & Events - This module is a handy mashup that allows you to locate Adobe user groups and upcoming events.

You can download the ADC Developer Desktop for free in the AIR Marketplace. Please help us improve the ADC Desktop - we'd love to hear from you. SWFs indexed without lifting a finger

Today there's some big news for RIA developers and folks who blog about Flash SEO: Google and Yahoo! now have optimized Adobe Flash Player technology to enhance search engine indexing of SWF files. The implemented solution works with all existing SWF content, across all versions of the SWF file format. Best of all, developers don't have to do anything to their published SWFs for them to be indexed. Read the FAQ to find out more.

MAX North America Experience launched

The MAX North America Experience website is a 100% Flash-based website with interactive landscapes (click the background). Ted Patrick tells us that the backgrounds were created by "several of the best digital design agencies on the planet." They certainly know how to design a good interactive experience that tries one's patience. Apparently if you can figure out the puzzles, not only do you have a lot of free time on your hands (or just are v. good at puzzles), but you'll discover who built them.

Oh, and you can also check out all the session content for MAX 2008.

LiveCycle ES Update 1 technical content now available

Adobe LiveCycle Enterprise Suite (ES) Update 1 is now released. This latest version is a more powerful and widely-enhanced update of LiveCycle ES. It features two new solution components, two new solution accelerators, and a number of other improvements. To help you get up to speed on this new release, we posted quite a few pieces of technical content on the LiveCycle Developer Center yesterday. You may want to start with Greg Wilson's article "What's new in LiveCycle ES Update 1" to understand the new services and tooling improvements. Other pieces include "Planning your upgrade to LiveCycle ES Update 1", "LiveCycle ES infrastructure selection and deployment", the updated LiveCycle ES architecture technical white paper, and the white paper "The benefits of rights management".

Adobe AIR cookbook: Get involved

Yesterday, we launched Adobe AIR 1.1, which includes support for localized and international applications. To help grow the AIR developer community, we also launched a beta version of the Adobe AIR cookbook, where you can post solutions and work-arounds to common coding problems related to building Flex, Flash, or HTML/Ajax-based apps on Adobe AIR, as well as rate and comment on posts.

If you have a solution related to building on AIR, be sure to post it to the AIR cookbook for a chance to have your solution appear in the upcoming Adobe AIR Cookbook. The book will be written and compiled by David Tucker, Marco Casario, Rich Tretola, and Koen De Weggheleire and published by O’Reilly Media. All posts will receive equal consideration.

New RIA series on the ADC

New Getting Started Panel on the ADC

Looking to learn how to use an Adobe product? Or to add another product to your collection of skills? There's a new feature on the Adobe Developer Connection that can help you reach your goal.

Today, the ADC team added a new Getting Started panel to the ADC home page. This panel, located just above the Features panel, streamlines your path to beginner product tutorials and documentation in the developer product centers. It also points you to introductions to the top project types that people are designing and developing with Adobe technologies.

Flex Cookbook - new book & updated site

O'Reilly Media has released the print version of Flex 3 Cookbook: Code-Recipes, Tips, and Tricks for RIA Developers this week! Get your copy from Amazon.

The authors, Josh Noble and Todd Anderson selected recipes from the live Adobe Flex cookbook site to add to the print copy. Thank you to all of our contributors for your contributions to the site. Keep sharing your recipes, feel the thrill of helping fellow developers and you could end up in a future version of the print cookbook!

As well, today, we released a re-skinned version of the Flex Cookbook site at http://www.adobe.com/go/flex_cookbook. With this release, we created a wider format Flex cookbook, improving the readability of code within cookbook recipes and in the composing recipe page. We hope you enjoy it!
