In this series of three artist interviews, we’ll be speaking with several of the Adobe Illustrator artists who are featured in my new book Adobe Master Class: Illustrator. This book showcases the work of 31 talented, innovative vector artists, giving us insight into their workflows and creative inspirations. Eleven of these artists share their design process via tutorials. The Illustrator team is happy to announce support for HiDPI and Retina display support for Illustrator CS6 customers. This update is available to all Illustrator CS6 customers, both Creative Cloud members as well as owners of perpetual products.
With this update, customers can see more detail in images, text, and in the Illustrator user interface when working on high-resolution displays, including the new Retina display available on MacBook Pro. The HiDPI feature in Illustrator is currently only available on Mac OS. It is expected to be available in the future on additional operating systems.

To access HiDPI/Retina support, open Illustrator CS6 and from the main menu select Help > Updates, and choose Update from the Updates dialog. Here’s how the Illustrator update is shown in Adobe Application Manager:

Package files
Efficiently hand off Illustrator files to production by automatically packaging the necessary fonts, linked graphics, and a package report in a single folder. This is a feature long-requested by our customers and we’re very happy to deliver it. The functionality is very similar to that found in Adobe InDesign.
Unembed images and Links panel enhancements
Quickly “unembed” images that have been placed and embedded into an Illustrator file for quick edits or for use outside of Illustrator. Automatically link them to their extracted PSD or TIFF files. Efficiently track and access complete information on any artwork placed within an Illustrator file, directly from the Links panel.
