Recruiting Talent in APAC for Adobe’s Digital Landscape

We recently interviewed Rhys Hughes, Director of Talent Acquisition – Asia, for an in-depth perspective of Adobe’s business in the region and the caliber of talent that the team is looking for.

Q: Adobe is growing extensively across the digital landscape, tell us more about this?
A: Adobe has been the “go to” brand for the creative community globally for many years. Our technology allows this community to create visually compelling digital experiences across any screen—televisions, tablets, mobile phones, digital billboards, etc—for customers.

We are focused on opportunities in two key growth areas—Digital Media and Digital Marketing–enabling customers to make, manage, measure and monetize content.

Q: Can you elaborate further about these two growth areas?
A: We continue to trail blaze the Digital Media space by revolutionizing the creative process through the Adobe Creative Cloud and Touch Applications as some examples. What does this mean? Simply put, your creative studio is anywhere you want it to be. You no longer need to be bound to your desktop. When creativity strikes, we make it easy for you to grab a tablet, access software and content from the Creative Cloud, start creating using a stylus or your fingertip, and share your creative content instantly. Since the beta release of the Creative Cloud in November 2011, our Photoshop App (every tool that is currently in the Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection can be accessed in the Creative Cloud) is now one of the top-ten most downloaded app across the iTunes store! You’ll see a lot more apps hitting the market soon!

We have broadened our reach beyond the Digital Media space with multi-channel web analytics and online optimization services. The acquisition of Omniture in 2009 marked our foray into the Digital Marketing space and we continue to strengthen our capabilities in this area through organic and non-organic avenues such as the acquisition of Day, Auditude, Demdex, and Efficient Frontier to ensure our customers are able to effectively optimize and monetize content. Today, we are the second largest software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider in the world and we have become mission critical to Marketers, blending science with art.

Q: How does Adobe differentiate itself to their competitors? And what does it mean for an individual’s career within Adobe?
A: Adobe has a number of key differentiators outside of our cutting-edge technology and solutions. The biggest is definitely our people. Adobe values shine through each individual regardless of what country they are from. In fact, we interview rigorously to ensure that the individuals we hire embody our values.

Q: Where are Adobe’s hotspots for talent growth across Asia?
A: Where do I start? Adobe is investing significantly across Asia to ensure we recruit strategic talent across a number of verticals. We have phenomenal opportunities across emerging markets in APAC where we hire some of the best research and development talent. This talented community has the opportunity to get their hands dirty on world renowned products such as those that sit in our Creative Suite (watch the headlines for our upcoming CS6 launch on April 23!).

Within APAC, our Talent Acquisition team has been incredibly busy hiring for Sales positions for our Digital Marketing Business Unit, Solution Consulting and Account Management to ensure our customers get only the best after-sales support. We are also hiring for Legal and Finance positions.

Shifting across to Japan—Adobe’s second largest country from a revenue perspective–we are hiring Enterprise Sales Executives who can position our Digital Marketing suite to Chief Marketing Officers as well as Marketing teams. We are looking for high-energy marketing execs to further increase our branding position across Digital Marketing. Q: How important is social media to Adobe in terms of attracting talent?
A: Social Media plays a very strategic and important part of Adobe’s global strategy and most certainly from a Talent Acquisition perspective. As Adobe transforms into an end-to-end digital solutions provider, Social Media is a key vehicle in regards to employment brand messaging.

With regard to social recruiting, Adobe is mobilizing its employees to play a key part in the process via our Facebook careers app on our Corporate Facebook page as well as corporate pages in most major geographies. From here, our employees can easily share our jobs via social channels like LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, as well as allow other visitors to refer their friends. We realize that we have some very unique and market-specific approaches to allow for different market needs such as and our Weibo blog in China.

Our Life@Adobe blog has become a very popular destination to take an inside and more personal view at what it’s like to have a career at Adobe.

We also utilize Relationship Marketing email campaigns and ensure we have dialogue consistently with large networks. Don’t forget to follow us on LinkedIn for up-to-date Adobe developments and opportunities.

In spite of the advances in social recruiting, we believe that nothing replaces building personal relationships and face-to-face communication whenever possible.
