Jay Sampson recently joined Adobe as vice president of Global Partners. His role involves working with our key strategic partners to consistently meet the needs of customers and drive growth for Adobe Digital Marketing solutions through this partner channel. A seasoned executive with 20 years of media sales experience, Jay is passionate about leveraging what he calls Adobe’s “right to win” in the Marketing Cloud. Adobe Life caught up with Jay to learn more about what inspired him to join Adobe, his thoughts about the new role, and his passions outside of work.
Adobe Life: What about Adobe appealed to you?
Jay: In today’s media landscape where marketers and agencies alike need to place the consumer in the center, if you want to work in the digital media industry, you have to differentiate yourself through a unique content voice or by offering software as a service (SaaS) that helps marketers be more effective. Personally, I’m excited about transitioning from selling media impressions to selling SaaS. I believe Adobe is at the forefront of SaaS, and holds a pole position in the digital marketing space. I did my research and spoke with several colleagues at other companies, including Adobe partners and competitors, and they confirmed my decision to go with Adobe.
Adobe Life: What are your immediate goals in your new position?
Jay: I want to get a better handle on both the Creative and Marketing Clouds and get a view to how they intersect, and better understand the roadmap for further intersection. Of course, over the next few months, I’ll be getting out and meeting with my team and with the strategic partners to identify and understand the opportunities before us. My job will entail a lot of travel, but I’m never happier than when I’m in front of customers and partners. I’m looking forward to hearing their feedback and then partnering well internally to implement what I can.
Adobe Life: What are your long-term goals?
Jay: I want to see Adobe continue to accelerate its lead in the industry. We’re currently ahead of the competition, and I want to help keep it that way. When you look at the horizon of this industry, it’s wide open—but no single company in our core competitive set has the breadth and depth of Adobe’s solutions. With our portfolio, our proven track record, and the quality of people here, we have the right to win in this space.
Adobe Life: What is your world outside of work?
Jay: My wife and I have three children. The oldest is heading to university in the fall. That keeps me pretty busy. We also have a horse farm with two rescued mini-horses (plus several other rescue pets), so getting out and “working the land” is grounding for me. I also enjoy tennis and Crossfit when I have time.
Adobe Life: Is there a favorite quote or truism you live by?
Jay: “To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.” – Winston Churchill
Adobe Life: What’s your guilty pleasure?
Jay: I love traveling. I love exploring—cities, countrysides, new places. My family and I spent a month in Italy and the south of France last summer, and we frequently travel to Punta Mita, Mexico, because the weather is always so perfect. I’m also a well-versed music fan and love getting turned-on to great music—so bring it on!
