Martha Stewart Living to produce special edition using Digital Publishing Suite

At the Adobe MAX conference this morning, we had a special guest drop in to talk about how tablet devices are changing the media landscape and, of course, how magazine publishers are taking advantage these new opportunities to reach readers in new ways.  During the opening keynote of the conference, Martha Stewart joined Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch to announce the publication of a special edition of Martha Stewart Living using the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite.  Marking the publication’s twentieth anniversary, the “Boundless Beauty” special edition showcases the magazine’s signature creativity, photography and how-to content in gardening, cooking, collecting and more.

Developed with Digital Magazine Suite tools now available on Adobe Labs, the edition will contain content designed to be consumed on a digital platform, including immersive brand advertisements that engage consumers at a deeper level and editorial content that showcases the magazine’s signature photography and how-to content for the iPad. The digital edition includes an animated cover of a blooming peony, a pan-and-zoom panoramic photo of Martha’s garden, and interactive photographs of featured recipes.  The animated cover itself features 180 photos taken over a period of 10 hours and stitched together to show the flower blooming.

A few weeks ago, we sat down with Martha Stewart Living staff – including Martha herself – to talk about the digital edition of the magazine. Learn how the publication is using the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite that leverages their existing workflows, designer skillsets and Creative Suite toolset in this short video:

The publication joins other titles like WIRED and The New Yorker now using the Digital Publishing Suite to create reading experiences that blend the design of print with the interactivity of digital.  Over twenty additional titles are expected to publish applications using the Digital Publishing Suite within the next month.  View a list of titles currently published using Adobe tools.
