3D workflow with AE

Wanted to do a shout out to 2 companies that have really been going all out in terms of their workflows with AE.  In September, Autodesk released a new compositor link feature for AE that works with 3ds Max.  What blew me away was it can create a link between the two applications, so if you make a change in one application, you can see the change in the other.  Check out:

A few weeks ago, Maxon, the makers of Cinema 4D came out with an update to their plugin for AE which allows you to literally create a .c4d file from within AE. Combined with the ability to make a .aep within Cinema 4D – you have great interop when jumping back and forth between the applications.

What this means?  Any method that can streamline the process of going from an idea to what you see on the screen, irrespective of tools is paramount in my book.  Both companies produce GREAT products.  Check it out.

please don’t forget about the huge blender communtiy out there. we use AFX and need a streamlined workflow as well :-) a few weeks ago Bartek Skorupas Blender2AE script made it into the trunk and is now available with every blender build

It would be nice if Adobe would also work together with the Blender Foundation because it is such a great product (and it is free ;-))

my words pascal, my words – please give us a Workflow for Blender. It’s a must!!!

The integration is great except for one important part in c4D. Multipass sequences that have multiple layers canot be read in after effects. Each object buffer and depth pass go into separate channels which can only be read in photoshop! This means instead of each pass being simply layered in one file, each pass has to be a separate sequence. If you have five passes, that’s 4500 files insead of just 900 in a 10 second animation!

Hello…. great news for sure.

HOWEVER…. we really feel that MAX was the wrong choice. Adobe should consider CROSS PLATFORM apps only. Kudos on C4D.. that was the best choice. However…. please contact sidefx.com they have a killer app for doing FX. and we are unveiling the takeover for broadcast graphics in this app shortly. if you don’t mind contacting Robert Magee on our behalf….. i promise it would be lucrative. PLUS… you can download and start using a full version of Houdini on any OS… and it can do what NO other apps can. i would be happy to also offer other cross platform suggestions. Our research states the downslope of windows on motion graphics for the last 3 years. lets celebrate that with apps that work on Windows, Mac AND linux. Yours truly…. Adobe Beta Test for years…. Chris Maynard | cmiVFX (or if you want Maya…. thats also a great choice for the autodesk side)
