HP Green Initiative Powered by Adobe AIR

hppower2.jpgHP launched a new, global green initiative called Power to Change that is powered by Adobe AIR. The campaign encourages users to download a new desktop widget that records the cumulative energy savings associated with participants turning off idle PCs when not in use. From the Power to Change website:

"With Power To Change, you can help make the world a greener place. The simple act of turning off your computer can help reduce energy waste, curb carbon emissions and save money."

The cumulative savings is then shared in a number of ways including a widget (see below). This is a very creative approach to not only promoting a green message, but also to encourage participation from users of the application. My favorite feature: the application can remind you when it is time to leave work so that you remember to turn of your computer.

Be sure to check out the HP PowertoChange blog for more details including an excellent post titled 9 Tips to 'Green' Your Office.
