Fireworks Album Creator 1.1 released Today!

Fireworks Album Creator 1.1 has numerous bug fixes specificially in the Black and White Players.

New/fixes for version 1.1

  • Every file name is converted to all lower case to avoid common problems associated with serving files on Linux/Unix Web servers.
  • Non-alphanumeric characters (1-9, a-z, A-Z) used in folder names, slideshow titles, album titles, and captions are escaped (i.e. converted to the ‘%NN’ notation). The included players have been modified to unescape these characters when parsing slideshow.xml, so that they will appear correctly in the slideshows.
  • Two of the players included in the package (player_black and player_white) started behaving erratically when a thumbnail was clicked while the slideshow was still running. This has been fixed in this release.
  • In the previous releases, non-JPEG files were simply copied out to the destination folder. This has been fixed, and all graphic file formats supported by Fireworks can be exported out as JPEG.
  • The source document is no longer displayed while processing the slideshow.

Have fun and of course let us know if you find anything else!!

I used Album Creator 1.00 to make several albums they suffered from the glitches addressed by version 1.1. Do I need to recreate these albums using 1.1 or is there a simple way to update the existing albums? Oh! thanks for a great tool.

  5. That’s a very good question. 🙂
Nothing destructive should happen. What you should do is create a small slideshow (using the new 1.1 players) and replace the generated player_black.swf file instead of the old one.
    Thanks,

    Hi Alan
Thanks for your e-mail and advice it worked out as you said. However I discovered two issues that may interest you.
When I created a new album, the slide show worked on my hard drive but when I uploaded it to the sever the images did not appear. The slides were there but no pictures. When I looked at the slideshow xml file I noticed the path was wrong. When I name the folders containing the pictures I use capital letters for the first letter of each word in the name. When the software created the slideshow xml file it changed all the letters to lower-case. Of course I just changed the names of the folders accordingly and it works fine. Perhaps it’s me using the wrong convention in naming the files.
Also I found that if you add extra images to an album created earlier the thumbnails do not update. A slide is created but there is no image in the slide, however the image is displayed in the main image viewer when the player reaches that slide.
Fireworks Album Creator is a great tool and I love using it, but it would be useful if the order of the albums could be changed. At the moment the oldest albums are at the top of the list and as you add new albums they are placed at the bottom. It would be great if the order was interchangeable like you can with the individual pictures within albums.
    Thanks
    Alan Taylor
