Acrobat 3D Version 8 Released! Top 5 New Features

We are now shipping Acrobat 3D Version 8! You can get all the information at http://www.adobe.com/acrobat3D as well as download the 30 day trial. Today I will be blogging on the top 5 features I like in the new release that is geared towards the manufacturing industry.

The top 5 that I like the most are as follows:

1. New PRC B-rep format - allows you to store precise CAD geometry with high compression.
2. 100x compression - average file compression on 3D model once converted to pdf
3. Support of PMI, FTA, and GDT data - convey's information on the design of the products components
4. Export to STEP, IGES, Parasolid, and VRML - standards for the exchange of model data
5. Support for new file formats - these include CATIA V5 R16, UGS NX4, Pro/E Wildfire 3, and I-DEAS 12

I recorded a demo showing the top 5 features that I like the most and it can be viewed here.

This is not only exciting for Adobe, but very exciting for the industry. The Free Adobe Reader is installed on 89% of PC's which gives you your engagement platform with anyone you wish to share your 3D design intent with. With over 300 3D CAD packages and viewers on the market today, pdf above everything else aids in solving interoperability in the communication of design intent between companies. PDF has always been the "de facto" standard for document exchange within the manufacturing industry. With the release of the full spec to the ISO Technical Committee (ISO 32000) it is well on the way to being the "standard". If you have not tried Acrobat 3D, try it today!

Have fun,

Jonathan
