Studio MX 2004 Price Drop
It looks like Macromedia has dropped the price of Studio MX 2004 by $200 for a limited time. The savings applies to both the upgrade, and the full version. Check out the Macromedia Store for details.
Out of curiosity, how many of you use studio vs. DevNet vs. purchasing products individually? Which do you think is the best deal, and why?

DevNet Pro Subscription all the way!

Yeah but it's only for US/Canada anyway. We still pay a fortune for them.

I use Studio Pro and Dev Net Pro, but hardly use the extra stuff on Dev Net other than the DevKits. That said, I don't use Fireworks much either, but the Studio deal is much more sensible than seperate purchases even if you hardly use one or two of the applications.

I use MS .NET for the server side so besides the extra components, book excerpts and the offline docs (which I can read online anyway) there is no need for a DevNet subscription.
Studio MX 2004 Pro does the trick - with the, for now, regular crashes of Flash IDE 7.01 (especially during debugging) being part of the development cycle :(((

Is it true that devnet comes with the personal edition of flash comm server? I read that, but wasn't sure if it could be a misprint. The personal edition allows up to 50 connections. If so, that is a $500 tool alone. Can that be verified?

It is indeed the Personal Edition (of Flash Communication Server). You can get more information on what is included in a DevNet subscription here:
http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/subscriptions/levelsfeatures.html
The only thing to keep in mind is that the server is licensed for development and testing only, but that's basically what the personal edition was designed for, anyway.

I am using Studio MX 2004 on Mac and I'll be using this new discount to upgrade my PC Studio MX (2002) to a DevNet subscription.
Unlike some posts above, I use Fireworks every day and Freehand once a week. I only use Flash Professional for flash video stuff, otherwise I only use Dreamweaver.
Even with the updater to 7.01 Flash is a crashing machine... REALLY annoying. Dreamweaver MX 2004 on the mac even with the updater is still slower than Dreamweaver MX.
That said I'll be upgrading the PC Studio MX to DevNet professional with this new discount offer.

Devnet was canned. It'll die in 2005. =(
