Audio_In_Captivate5
Adobe Captivate 5 is released and available in market. Adobe Captivate 5 comes up with great new features which helps improve the usability and productivity of Captivate users. At the same time every existing feature is important too and has been looked into for improvements.
One of the main features of any e-learning tool is its AUDIO recording and editing capabilities. This post will introduce you to the new layout of Audio dialogs in Adobe Captivate5. Further we will run series of posts to showcase many new enhancements, features and tips and tricks in AUDIO feature.
Menu items has been revised and this is how Audio menu items look –

We also have small icons on main toolbar to invoke ‘Slide Audio’ and ‘Background Audio’ dialogs

Slide audio dialog have a shortcut ‘F5’ it invokes in ‘Add/replace’ tab by default –
ADD/REPLACE TAB:
As the name indicates, use this tab to add a new audio to the dialog. If any existing audio is present, will be replaced/overwritten if user adds audio from this tab.

When should you use ADD/REPLACE tab:
- To record, import audio for the first time on particular slide, object
- To replace the existing audio completely with a newly recorded, imported audio.
EDIT TAB:
‘Edit’ tab should be used to edit the already recorded, imported audio file. Once in ‘Edit’ tab user is exposed to many Audio editing options which he can use to refine the audio data. Any audio recorded in ‘Edit’ tab will be inserted at the playhead position.
When should you use EDIT tab:
- To insert an audio in between the existing audio. Audio is inserted at playhead position
- To edit the audio – cut, copy, paste, volume correction, dynamics, Normalize
- Edit with ‘Soundbooth CS5’ – ELS2.0 feature only.
CLOSED CAPTIONING TAB:
‘Closed Captioning’ tab is available only for ‘slide audio dialog’. As the name indicates this tab should be used to insert/modify closed captions for an audio file. User can add closed captions directly and modify the markers to set the closed caption timing correctly.
Adobe Captivate 5 also provides a “SAVE” option. Users can now SAVE their changes and continue working to make more changes. Thus user can confirm the changes they are sure of and not lose them. Once all the changes are done user can SAVE and CLOSE the Audio dialog.
