Adobe Presenter installation issues on 64 bit Operating Systems

Many users attempting to install the Adobe Presenter 7 patches on 64 bit version of windows 7 (and in some cases Vista) with Microsoft Office 2010, have observed installation failures that indicates that Presenter is unable to detect PowerPoint. This issue has been addressed in an upcoming patch. The workaround is to create this entry in the registry manually before installing Presenter. To do this, please follow the steps as under:

1. Open the registry (start > run> regedit)
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>wow6432Node>Microsoft>Office>12.0 OR 14.0>PowerPoint;

NOTE: you will not find PowerPoint at this path if the version installed is 64 bit; for Adobe Presenter, you need to install 32 bit MS PowerPoint.

3. Go to ‘InstallRoot’
4. Right click > new > String Value

5. Rename ‘New Value #1′ to ‘Path’

6. Double click on ‘Path’ and enter the path of MS PowerPoint on your system, eg: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\

You should now be able to install Presenter. See this Captivate movie

    Thanks. Is this only to solve the installation for the OS, but not for Presenter to be functional with Powerpoint 2010 – 64-bit?

      No Lieve, this #AdobePresenter fix does not include support for PPT 2010- 64bit.

        Is there a fix for 64-bit powerpoint yet, or is it still upcoming? We are switching to all 64-bit at my college as well.

          No, while the latest update-Presenter 7.0.7- is compatible with a 64 bit OS, it still requires a 32 bit PowerPoint install on the machine.

    I am running Windows 7 with Office 2010, the path already exists? so this is not the work around at the moment but thank you.

    I have windows 7 64 bit running and 32 bit office 10 and this does not work . Still gives me the error ” unable to detect PowerPoint ” . Our school has a license to use this and it is stupid about 50 % of can not use it now since the school purchases computers with 64 bit OS. I have some say on software on campus and this program will get dropped if I have anything to say.

      Did you download the Adobe Presenter 7 installer from the trial downloads page? If yes, can you try downloading from http://download.adobe.com/pub/adobe/presenter/win/presenter.msi

    Thank you for your help. We tried this but couldn’t find >12.0> we only have 14.0 which didn’t have powerpoint listed. Any suggestions?

      can you find the location where PowerPoint 32 bit is listed? I am assuming you do have 32 bit version of PowerPoint installed on your 64 bit OS. If your environment is any different, please indicate accordingly. thanks.

    I’m a Mac user running OS 10.6.8 and using VMware Fusion 3.1.3. I just did an entire re-install of Windows 7 because of other problems. I decided to set things up as 64-bit. I installed MS Office 2007, and then the upgrade to MS Office 2010. I’ve tried installing Adobe eLearning Suite 4 for Windows 3 times tonight, but Presenter will not install. And the work-around posted in the Captivate movie is irrelevant because the registry paths I found already exist!

    When will there be a true fix for this issue, and how do I get the fix?

      can you confirm which version of Elearning Suite you have installed? you are right, in case you have upgraded from Office 2007 to 2010, the workarounds posted in this blog are not required. Can you email the installer log file for Elearning Suite generated at c:program files (x86)Common FilesAdobeInstallers to “ntewary at adobe dot com”.

    @ Shameer Ayyappan – Any news on when Adobe are going to make Presenter 7.0.7 be happy with Office 2010 x64… Everybody and everything is switching to x64…

    Hey,
    I’ve installed 2 different versions of this 7 and 7.0.7 but still wont work on my power point. It is running on 32 bit and it has installed but, will not show up on Power Point 2010. I’ve tired everything and nothing is working. Can someone please help me?? I .have to use this for school.

    Well we are well into the first half of 2012. Any news yet on support for 64-bit powerpoint? 80% of my clients are now on 64-bit powerpoint MS 2010 and I cannot instruct them on Presenter if it doesn’t work. And these clients are happy to choose another solution, so what will Adobe do?

    You can follow these directions for the 64 Bit version of office. All you need to do is follow the directions and just add the registry entries if they don’t already exist it’s very simple. Next instead of setting the path for the new String Value to “Program Files (x86)” you will set it to “Program Files” and viola Presenter 7 installed.

    what if your powerpoint is in the “Program Files (x86)” in the 64 bit? Do you still change it to “program Files”. ANd then do you have to reinstall the presenter program?
