Here comes another Interactive Screen: Click-play Audio

Last week, I conducted a session on creating interactive screens using Adobe Captivate 5.5 where I showed the participants how to create a tabbed, click-reveal text, and click-play audio screen.

The demonstrations for tabbed and click-reveal text screen are already available here and for the benefit of blog readers, here’s how you can create a click-play audio screen. :)

In this example screen, notice that introduction audio plays when the screen loads. When you click any of the highlighted area, the audio clip related to it plays and the highlight box disappears indicating that you have already clicked that area.

Want to create such a screen? Here’s a demonstration:

Want to learn how to create more such interactive screens? Join me next week for Creating Interesting Interactivities with Adobe Captivate – Part 2 training session.

Happy captivating :)

Anyway to coordinate this audio with Closed Captions to make this interaction 508 compliant?

      Hi Patrick,

Since we have not added slide audio, we cannot have closed captions associated with it.

However, you can place the related transcript in the transparent text captions that we use for adding audio, change the background of the text captions to look same as closed captions and place them at the bottom of the screen just above the playbar. You don’t need to edit any advanced actions that we defined for this interactivity.

Let me know if this helps!

          Hi Pankaj,

In Captivate 8, you can directly use the Play Audio and Stop Triggered Audio action to achieve it. Watch this video for details: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52x5sgbzrgc&feature=youtu.be

Hi Pooja, Thank You so much for quick reply.

Unfortunately this hasn’t solved my problem.

            My problem is:

            1. Want to play screen audio (which will play on screen entrance).
            2. Want audio for each clickable and when clickable is selected any other playing audio should be stopped.
            3. User should be able to play/pause the audio from the play bar buttons.

Attached is the screenshot showing the functionality/design I and trying to achieve.

            Thanks is advance.

Hi Pankaj, you can do so by removing the slide audio and adding it to a transparent text caption or shape and keep it visible in output. As soon as the screen loads, the audio will play. And when you want to trigger some other audio, add a script to your advanced action to hide the transparent object which has the audio file attached.

Let me know if this helps. If not, please share your project with us at captivatehelp at adobe dot com and we’ll help you with it.

    Hi Pankaj,

I’ve modified your project and replaced show/hide actions with Play Audio actions. Let me know if this helps.

Hi Pooja, Thank you so much for such quick reply, I really appreciate you help. you are awesome!

my concern is to play/pause the audio. If we use ‘Play Audio’ action then I don’t think that we can play/pause the audio from shell, please correct me if i am wrong.

If there any work around to achieve this functionality in captivate.

sorry if I am bothering you too much, I am new to captivate and on toughest part of learning curve.

if there is a limitation in captivate to achieve this functionality then i thing it should be there in next version.

      Regards,

        Hi Pankaj,

Can you please tell me the use case for it. Captivate playbar controls audio on the timeline and in this screen we are playing the audio on a click of a button, which is trigger-based audio. To stop the triggered audio, you will have to create a custom button with Stop Triggered Audio action; as the regular playbar button will just control the timeline audio.

          Hi Pooja

Thank you so much for you help and clearing all my doubts.

I creating the screen with one screen audio (on lime line) and playing clickable audio with ‘Play Audio’ action. I am compromising on the functionality on play/pause for clickable audio, but as thy say nothing is perfect and we can not compare costume development with any authoring tool.

          Thanks again!

          Regards,
          Pankaj Srivastava
