Publish with a Branded Template… Save time!

Sometimes we need to embed the published Adobe Captivate SWF in an HTML page which has the branded template of our organization. This template can be a company website, home-grown LMS, or a portal. If we have the luxury of changing the default HTML template for Adobe Captivate, there is nothing like it! See the page below which was directly published from Adobe Captivate which includes the header and footer objects. In this page, only the center part is a SWF and rest all are HTML elements.

Let the image dance for your tunes… Image Slideshows with audio using Adobe Captivate 5.5

One of my favorite feature in Audio Editing dialog is, starting the next slide at a specific location at the audio waveform… just have to click ‘Select next slide at the cursor position’ button or simply press Ctrl+S or Cmd+S. Are you wondering what’s the fun? The fun begins when you want to play the pictures of an Image Slideshow according to the beats of an audio. What am I talking about? Watch the video below and see how the images change according to the music.

Dynamic text for buttons… Drawing Shapes + Click boxes way!

It is very common to allow the users to navigate to a different screen if they would like to read more on a particular topic. When we create such screens, being smart in navigation and letting the learners know which screen they came from becomes very important. If the learner is clicking ‘Read more’ from Screen A and lands in Screen B, it becomes helpful for the users to know that they will go back to Screen A when they click on ‘Go to last slide visited’ button. Our Community Expert Lieve Weymeis has posted an answer at the Adobe Captivate Forum on how to solve this… Thanks Lieve :)

Check out the example to take a look at it…

Designing for handhelds? Be cautious and don’t go overboard…

It’s a trend now-a-days to develop content for multiple devices such as Desktops, Smart Phones, Tablets, etc. We also see people go overboard with their design and finally when they view the content in handhelds, it may not appear as expected. So what is that we generally miss? Of course there are tools to help us but I don’t think they can help us decide what is correct or incorrect…

Save Time and Increase Productivity through Advanced Interactions Panel!

When I work with large projects, one of the challenges I face is to debug the project when something is not working correctly. The things that can go wrong are incorrect navigation, incorrect association of actions, number of attempts in question slides, etc. In such cases, one thing that I wish for is a dialog that shows all the interactions in my project. And there comes the Advanced Interactions Panel… a real time saver!

Enabling Forced Navigation for Your Interactive Screens in Adobe Captivate 5.5

You have created an interactive screen that you are proud of. You show it to the customer. Overall, he likes the screen, but requests you to hide/disable the Next button till the learner has clicked all the interactive objects on the screen. The customer wants to make sure the learners view the content linked with each interactive object before moving on to the next screen.

As an eLearning professional, you don’t believe in forced navigation and have made the content interesting enough to engage the learners. But you need to implement the changes suggested by the customer.

Don’t you Continue reading…

Magic Reminders – I just had to share

Trainers and Educators are always wishing that they had a magic way to remind their learners of things outside of class. Don’t forget to finish that module – Please bring your work or materials to our next session – Big test coming up. Sometimes these things are something you can schedule in advance because you know the calendar, and sometimes these things are last minute reminders. So whether you need to tell everyone in the company that the workplace safety compliance module must be Continue reading…

Distributing Adobe Captivate Courses through LMS

We use various distribution channels to share content created using Adobe Captivate 5.5 depending on the type of audience. One such channel is Learning Management Systems. It is a powerful channel to track and report learner’s activity, but at times can be complex to work with, given a lot of choices available .

This demonstration showcases how to enable reporting and upload the courses to LMS. We have used cloud.scorm.com as an example LMS here.

Creating Spry Menus in Adobe Captivate 5.5 Courses

When we are working on a large course with many topics and sub-topics, it’s a good idea to include all the topics along with sub-topics on the menu page. But this can result into a content heavy screen and doesn’t give a neat look. In such a scenario we can add Spry Menu functionality on the menu page, where when you hover over the topic, the sub-topics appear and become accessible. Here’s an example screen with a Spry Menu. Hover over Menu A to see the hidden submenus.

Let’s see how we can create such a menu page. Continue reading…

Creating a Timeline Screen with Adobe Captivate 5.5

In an eLearning course, we create different types of screens with rollover audio, rollover text, rollover image, rollover slidelet, click-reveal text, click-display animation, pop-ups, tabs, etc. We saw how to create some of these screens in my previous blog posts. Now let’s see how we can create a timeline screen with Adobe Captivate 5.5 using advanced actions.

A timeline screen is the best way to graphically represent the events in chronological order, especially historical events. You can weave these events in a story form and aesthetically present them one-by-one in small chunks.

Here’s an example of a timeline screen Continue reading…
