Adobe Announces Primetime 2.0; Drives TV Everywhere Forward

Our team has been busy at The NAB Show in Las Vegas this week and we’re excited to announce some major updates to Adobe Primetime – the industry’s most advanced TV delivery and monetization platform for programmers and pay-TV service providers. This latest release of Adobe Primetime takes advantage of the latest industry innovations and introduces new capabilities that drive strong viewer engagement and greater flexibility for monetization.

With Adobe Primetime 2.0, broadcasters and pay-TV providers can tap into a new cloud ad insertion service (available today) to insert ads into live, linear and on-demand content across any platform/device. We also unveiled Concurrency Monitoring as an extension to our Emmy award-winning Primetime PayTV Pass service, allowing customers to manage the number of streams accessed across each device. Aside from desktop operating systems, SmartTVs, Android and iOS devices, Adobe Primetime 2.0 now supports XBox 360 gaming consoles and Roku devices.

Additional capabilities in Adobe Primetime (coming later this year) being demonstrated at The NAB Show include support for MPEG-DASH and the new ultra high definition television (UHDTV) standard, which will allow media companies to deliver content across 4K enabled SmartTVs and other IP-connected devices. Check out our full announcement for all the details.

We developed these tools with video professionals’ entire workflow in mind and many of the new features showcase the convenience of having all of Adobe’s video apps at your fingertips with Creative Cloud. We’re thrilled that more and more filmmakers are utilizing the benefits of Creative Cloud, including two-time Academy Award-winning editor, Kirk Baxter A.C.E., choosing to cut David Fincher’s upcoming feature film “Gone Girl” exclusively with Adobe Premiere Pro CC.

Twelve months ago, we promised to deliver regular updates through Creative Cloud to our customers. Over the past year, we’ve added hundreds of new and enhanced features that help video pros work faster with more streamlined workflows.  Today, we’re raising the bar with tighter levels of integration between Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC.

Adobe Anywhere for Video Now Available

CC VideoToday, we announced that Adobe Anywhere for videos, first previewed in April at the National Association of Broadcasters tradeshow (NAB), is now available for the immediate relief of video production headaches. Gone are the challenges associated with passing huge files back and forth across the internet between multiple editors working on the same project.  Now, team members can work together with centralized media and assets, making it possible for remote editors, motion graphic artists and producers to work jointly on a project from virtually anywhere……in other words, teams can be built on talent, not necessarily location.

Michael Turner, senior vice president of Media Technology and Development at Turner Broadcasting, put things in context when he talked to us about how CNN moves a lot of material in support of video journalism.  Just a couple of years ago, providing worldwide access to content as interoperable files was a huge milestone for them.  Now they aim to make that access transparent, and Adobe Anywhere will play a key role in achieving that transparency because journalists will be able to engage with content and collaborate on stories seamlessly, regardless of  their physical location.

Today’s release of Adobe Anywhere supports the latest versions of Adobe Premiere Pro CC and Adobe Prelude CC that are available as part of Adobe Creative Cloud and were updated today to include 25 new features focused on increased speed and ease of editing..  We expect support for Adobe After Effects CC to be available later in 2013.

Adobe Previews Next Gen Video and Audio Products and Launches Adobe Anywhere

Next week kicks off the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show, the largest broadcast tradeshow in the US.  Adobe is heading to the show with a lot to talk about.  Today, we announced a sneak peak at the next generation of Adobe’s flagship video tools including Adobe® Premiere® Pro, Adobe After Effects® SpeedGrade™, Adobe Audition®, Adobe Prelude™, Adobe Media Encoder and Adobe Story before their official release.

The next version of Adobe video tools has been developed with features created in direct response to the needs of filmmakers, broadcasters and video professionals. In fact, the multiple Academy Award winning Coen brothers have been working directly with the Adobe Premiere Pro product team and are switching to Adobe Premiere Pro for their next feature film slated for late 2013. More on that here.

In addition to our tools, we announced Adobe Anywhere for video – a modern, collaborative workflow platform that empowers teams using Adobe professional video tools, to work together accessing and managing centralized media and assets across virtually any network. Adobe Anywhere was revealed as a technology preview in 2012, and will be showcased at NAB this year, and is expected to be available in May 2013.

At NAB, we are discussing the fusion of new media and filmmaking. On Sunday, April 7, at 10:30 a.m. in room N250, Adobe will lead the Post|Production World keynote titled, “From Concept to Delivery: The Fusion of New Media and Storytelling.” The panel will feature Adam Pertofsky, editor and partner at Rock Paper Scissors, Bayan Joonam of Soul Pancake, Rainn Wilson’s production and media company, and Patrick F. X. Murphy, Visual Effects  Supervisor and Animation Director for “Annoying Orange” on Cartoon Network, who will join moderator Mark Randall, chief strategist for Adobe, to discuss how creativity and technology work together. Watch the panel next week here.

Unveiling the all new Creative Suite 5!

You know for a supposedly slothful company, Adobe sure launches a lot of products. Monday April 12 sees us announce the Creative Suite 5 product line: that’s five suites, 15 point-products, and a whole bunch of online services for creatives.

We’re hosting an online launch event at 8am PDT on April 12. Sign up and check it out here. And if you’re already convinced, pre-order your CS5 products here. We plan to begin shipping CS5 within 30 days.

With CS5 we’re taking our creative products in a new direction: this release includes the first steps of our product integration with Omniture, bringing sophisticated online analytics into the heart of the creative process. But we know we still have to wow everyone with stunning creative tools in any CS release and over 250 new features are packed into CS5 products. These include the astonishing new Content Aware Fill and Puppet Warp features in Photoshop CS5 that have been all-the-rage on the web, as we sneaked them over the last couple of weeks.

Our engineers really are magicians, true wizards if you will – and it’s a global effort: teams in San Jose, San Francisco, Seattle, Folsom, San Diego, Richardson, Arden Hills, Newton, Ottawa, Edinburgh, Hamburg, Bucharest, Noida, Bangalore, Beijing, Tokyo — and many other remote sites - all contributed to this launch.

Anyhoo, a few of us lucky PRmeisters and assorted Adobe civilians are at NAB trade show in Las Vegas this week, where we’ll see at first hand customer reaction to CS5 – or at least Production Premium CS5, our video toolset. The Mercury Playback Engine is already getting a lot of buzz from our beta reviewers and Premiere Pro is going to give Final Cut Pro users pause to think. Only kidding Apple fan-boys, competition is a good thing and the basis of our capitalist economy!

So welcome CS5. It’s one of the great truisms of public relations that it’s easier to do PR for great products than horrible ones! There, all you aspiring communications professionals have learned something new today.

If you’re at the NAB trade show, come and check Adobe CS5 products out at Booth SL3320.
