I AM THE NEW CREATIVE

Art directors are becoming animators. Print designers are becoming web designers. Illustrators are also photographers and editors who also shoot film. They are the New Creatives, and we are celebrating their work.

With the Creative Cloud our product teams have removed the barriers to creative expression: Designers can build parallax HTML5 experiences. Illustrators are making EPUBs. Photographers are using their cameras and Adobe technology to become filmmakers. And coders have the tools to make beautiful design.

It’s an amazing and interesting time in our industry; people have the ability to self-express, in any discipline, without boundaries. I Am The New Creative promotes the amazing work our community is producing and marks this moment in time as a movement and a celebration of creativity.

One of the most incredible aspects of this program has been watching creative professionals merge their mediums and their portraits to produce “New Creatives” versions of themselves.

There’s something magical about the compositions. As a designer there’s always a part of me in my work, but to personalize my work in this way, to make my work more representative of me, presents an alternative perspective. All of the artists we’re working with are enjoying this experience and are appreciative of our desire to promote their amazing creative output.

Our new site highlights the New Creatives, their disciplines, their work, and their stories.

Visitors to the site can join us and become New Creatives (submissions are made through Behance and curated by our team); we’ll be choosing a number of artists and celebrating them and their work throughout our social properties and on Adobe.com during the coming year.

Creative Spotlight: Leandro Erlich’s Reflective Optical Illusion House

Looking at a normal object in a different way helps creatives bring a fresh perspective to everyday items. The Argentinian artist Leandro Elrich did just that in his piece titled “Dalston House,” turning a house on its side.

The piece uses a wall of giant mirrors, which reflects against a huge horizontal print of a Victorian terraced house. Visitors are then free to climb and jump around on the print of the house, which is reflected in the mirror above. Visitors hang from windows, skateboard along ledges, and crawl along walls in this optical illusion.

Creative Spotlight on Creative Cloud Logo Redesign Artists Erik Johansson

When you think of a common hobby, you often think of photography. Popular, yes, but there are a few creatives that go above and beyond. They see the world through a unique lens and produce stellar pieces of work. Photographer Erik Johansson (@tackochgodnatt) is an individual who takes photography and flips it on its head. Don’t believe us? For starters, check out the Creative Cloud logo he reimagined below.

If there is anyone who can create surreal images, but captured in a realistic way, it’s Erik. A native to Sweden currently living in Berlin, Erik has the luxury of having two distinct environments at his fingertips to inspire and capture some amazing photographs. Berlin, described by Erik as a “hip place,” has a large photo and art community, which enables him to be surrounded by other creatives. When he is in search for unique landscapes and scenes, he heads home to Sweden.

After receiving his first digital camera at age 15, he wanted to do something above and beyond with photography. It was then he discovered photo manipulation. Combining his love for drawing and photography, Erik would begin a project with a sketch, shoot some photos, and then head into post production using his tools of choice, Photoshop and Lightroom. Having these tools and more at his disposal with Creative Cloud has enabled him to do anything.

Want to learn more about this photography master? Get a behind the scenes look at how Erik produces some of the most unique creations in the world in the video below. Also, follow us on Facebook and Twitter for more news, tutorials and more surrounding photography.

Creative Spotlight: Will Suarez aka “HI Def Willy” on Creative Cloud

If you’ve visited the Creative Cloud Facebook page, then there’s a good chance you’ve seen the work of Will Suarez aka “HI Def Willy.” A believer in bringing cultural awareness and unity, he enjoys creating pieces that showcase people from various ethnic backgrounds and their unique characteristics.

Intrigued by his work, we connected with HI Def Willy on Facebook. We wanted to not only see more of Will’s work, but to also learn how Creative Cloud helps bring his innovative ideas to life.

Find out more about HI Def Willy’s style, learn how Creative Cloud has enables him to work more efficiently and more in the Q&A below.

Adobe: Describe a project you are currently working on or have completed with Creative Cloud.

Will: Recently I have been focusing on creating a series of fine art pieces combining illustrations, photography and analog techniques into digital formats to create surrealistic portraits .Using a matte gel transfer technique, I transfer high res images onto fine art paper, canvas or wood.

What was your inspiration behind the project?
During my long commutes around Texas for meetings and work, I find myself always meeting random people walking the city streets. I get inspired by the stories told, the way people view them and the myths that people create of them. I wanted to capture that and find a way to show those emotions in these pieces.

How has the Creative Cloud changed your creative workflow?
Using the Creative Cloud has changed the way I work dramatically. It definitely has simplified everything and makes it easy to keep organized. I can seamlessly access and save progress on projects and pick right up from where I left off on any of my other devices on the go.

What tools specific to Creative Cloud enable you to work more efficiently?
As a freelance graphic artist and being on the go most of the time, having all my files accessible to view, edit and share, sure come in handy. I utilize many of the Touch Apps . One of the more frequent one I use is Adobe Ideas. It allows me to start a vector sketch on the go and access through the Creative Cloud on my PC where I can then continue to edit and complete.

Describe your style of work in a few words.
Everything’s a work in progress… pushing the limits.

Fill in the blank: I couldn’t create without _________.
Music and life experiences

What advice would you give to an individual who is considering Creative Cloud?
If you are looking to grow and develop your style, you definitely need to look into it! Invest in your talent and gain access to utilize all the great tools that you get with Creative Cloud. Not only will you stay current on updates and gain access to many options, but it will definitely streamline your workflow. The allotted space is more than enough to be able to carry along with you a mobile studio. Creating couldn’t get much easier. Everything you need is right there whenever, wherever.

Anything Else?

Thank you Adobe for always putting out great products! I am excited to see what new apps and features will be added in the future! For all fellow graphic designers, artists, creators, and innovators, keep pushing your limits, get out of your comfort zone and explore, create, define your work. Putting your work out there for people to see and enjoy is what it is all about. Stay humble, pour your heart into what you do and don’t ever be afraid to take a leap of faith.

Photographer Chris Nitz Dishes on Adobe Photoshop Touch

Have you heard the great news yet? An update for Adobe Photoshop Touch is now available with many new features to take your creative process to the next level! The update includes pressure-sensitive stylus support, 7-inch device support, plus more. Check out the Photoshop.com Blog for more details.

One individual that has unleashed his creativity with Photoshop Touch is photographer Chris Nitz (@Chris_Nitz). We sat down with Chris to get his thoughts on Photoshop Touch, discuss one of his most cherished creations, and uncover some great pointers for you. Check out our full Q&A below!

Adobe: What are your favorite features in Adobe Photoshop Touch?

Chris: Photoshop Touch contains a good amount of features, but the Adjustments panel combined with layers is by far what I use the most. As I am a black and white photography fan, being able to quickly convert an image to monochrome, add in some curves and levels adjustment, apply some sharpening and then upload when done, makes for one insanely quick workflow. Even better, this all happens right in the palm of my hand!

What Adobe Photoshop Touch project are you most proud of and why?

As of this moment, I have to say that the image of the Camaro is the project I am most proud of. This was a seven-layer image consisting of curves, black and white treatment, lens flare, sharpening, and various other tweaks made along the way. I absolutely love how this turned out and how well Photoshop Touch handled all the touches I applied. It was not until I looked at it on my computer that I realized just how much I have grown to love this app.
