There’s no question that there are amazing creative pros doing great work with Adobe products. To elevate what we’re seeing out there from our users, we’re kicking off the first of our “Creative Suite Spotlight Series” featuring Tad Carpenter! Tad is an Illustrator, designer and teacher living in Kansas City, Mo. He spends most of his time running his own studio, working with notable brands such as: Macy’s, Target, Atlantic Records, The Corcoran Museum, Dave & Busters, Hallmark Cards, Land of Nod and MTV, to name a few. Tad also teaches graphic design at the University of Kansas – his alma mater.
Head over to our Creative Suite Facebook Page and get to know him even better. You’ll find answers to questions like, “What are your favorite Adobe CS 5.5 design tools? How are you using them?” and “What kind of impact has social media had on your work?” For now, here’s a little taste of what you’ll find:
Creative Suite: What do you do to stay creative?
Tad Carpenter: I love to collect. I think creative people are all, at their core, collectors – collectors of ideas, collector of goods, collectors of things. I really enjoy going to antique stores, salvage yards, used book stores and just flat out going junkin’.
Looking at items form the past to me is very inspiring. I like to think my work is very much influenced by the past. I love Mid-Century design in all forms. Often times looking at an old Eames chair that needs to be reupholstered can give me an idea as easy as looking on the internet can. For me a big thing is getting up and out like getting away from my computer. I live in an area where there is a great community of people and a huge 4 floor antique mall. I love to go there and dig when I need inspiration. Just like often times we come up with our best ideas while in the shower, going on a walk tends to put things in perspective for me.
