Finding Your Creative Passion

A recent article published by HOW tackled an issue that many creatives often encounter: passion. Many creative professionals chose their field because more traditional career paths didn’t ignite their flame quite like the idea of creating something new every day. Quite simply, creatives require a healthy passion for their work in order to continue finding success. But what happens when you need to reignite your passion?

Ultimately, HOW boils it all down to 7 simple steps to reignite your passion:

  • Appreciate what you have
  • Do more of what you like
  • Do less of what you dislike
  • Be realistic
  • Find the significance in your work
  • Always do your best
  • Take a break

We found these steps to be quite similar to one of our favorite posters from Creative Something about the rules of a creator’s life.

So we want to hear from you! Tell us in the comments how you maintain your passion for your creative work.

Just what I needed to remind myself of – especially points 1) and 7). Appreciate what you have, and take a break.

Great post. Simple and effective. Thanks for reminding me to find the significance in what I do, amongst other things. Am off to take that break…

Agree, after working for 20 years doing this stuff, I often need something to ignite the passion.
    The html 5 looks interesting!

What is up with #6? I saw that on a marathon runner’s t-shirt at the gym once, something about “keep training when others are taking the day off.” Brings out the competitive spirit for sure, but what does that have to do with being creative? Just curious.

Make work into play. :) Lovely post. The format makes it more visual. I like.

As a photographer, finding the shot in a tricky, otherwise ugly, horribly lit scenario…that inspires me & forces me to think outside the box and push myself to be better than I think I can be.

    #7, “Take a break”
My own version goes a little bit better:
    … “Reward yourself”.

#10. Did I fulfill my objective?

To: CedricsMom, I believe #6 is important not only to gain an edge amongst the competition, also for the absence to obligations of one’s daily agenda. We need time to be creative, and when it comes to creating 2. “to try new things” and fail if necessary. When a bit delusional and working from subconscious something unexpected happens.

The rules are excellent. “Work into Play” is such an art itself and a beautiful manifestation it is. My favorite is “do more than what you are told to do” and the one I always run back to, no matter how unorthodox unprofessional it is “work when others are sleeping”.

    if i had to add a #10:
“the computer is just a tool in your arsenal., not the only way. close the lid once in a while and make something with your hands.”
