Edge Reflow – We first sneaked a look at Adobe Edge Reflow during our Create the Web event last September, and are eager to share that we’ve just released the first public preview of it today. Edge Reflow – a part of the Edge Tools & Services offering in Creative Cloud – is a new responsive design tool for web designers and developers creating websites and content for screens of virtually all sizes. It features an intuitive resizable design surface that shows how layouts and visuals will adapt to different screen sizes and enables users to create high fidelity web designs on the application’s native web surface leveraging the power of CSS. Get all the details from the Edge Reflow Team blog. Looking to get started right away? Here’s an intro to Reflow video from evangelist Paul Trani.

Also new to the Edge Tools & Services offering are new feature releases to Edge Animate and the introduction of Edge Code preview.

Animate Edge Animate now supports CSS gradients and filters (so you can, for example, easily add blur effects) and makes it simpler to add rich typography with the free Edge Web Fonts service

Code

Edge Code is our code editor for HTML, CSS and JavaScript that is completely written in HTML5. We’re released a preview of it today that allows developers to:

  • See changes in the browser as they make them, and code hinting for more CSS properties and HTML tags
  • Edit code in context instead of having to switch between files with the addition of a Quick Edit feature.

Our Top 12 Most Notable Moments of 2012 – Part Two

Here is the second half of our countdown to our top 12 moments of 2012. We hope you’ve enjoyed the year as much as we did. As we look forward, we’re extremely excited for what’s in store in 2013. Here’s to an amazing new year!

Moment #6 | Creative Cloud Scavenger Hunt

Back in April, we got creatives involved in a scavenger hunt right in our backyard in San Francisco the day of the Creative Cloud launch – and it sure was a blast. The grand prize was $10,000 and a lifetime Creative Cloud membership, with two runner-up prizes of 1-year Creative Cloud memberships, which ended up being grabbed by some very lucky winners. Thanks again to all those who participated! We had some great memories from your social documentary.

Moment #5 | Create the Web

Kicking off the first leg of the tour in San Francisco, we announced key updates for the web development community, including Dreamweaver updates and new Edge Tools & Services, exclusively for Creative Cloud members. This also included the first release of Edge Animate (formerly known as Adobe Edge). With these new apps added to Creative Cloud, we’ve seen a tremendous appreciation from you – landing its rank at number four.

Moment #4 | Create Now Live

This online event pulls into the number three spot due to the big feature updates we were thrilled to announce for Creative Cloud members. Photoshop updates included Retina Display support and more, Muse acquired a way to create mobile versions for websites, and the very popular announcements of Creative Cloud for Teams and the addition of Creative Cloud Training. You can still watch the keynote and other snippets from the event on our Create Now Adobe TVchannel.

Moment #3 | Adobe & Behance

We’re thrilled that the Behance community will be joining our family! 2013 holds more in store for how we deepen the connections between our creative tools and services via Creative Cloud and creatives like you around the world.

Moment #2 | Creative Cloud Launch

This is where it all began, which is why were placing this in the runner-up spot for our notable moments. Along with the launch of Creative Cloud, we were excited to introduce the new version of Creative Suite 6, loaded with major feature updates to all our CS applications.

October marked a milestone for Acrobat with the release of Acrobat XI. This version is focused on simplifying everyday work from editing PDFs more intuitively to building forms from scratch in limits.

Moment #11 | Exclusive features for Creative Cloud Members
2012 was certainly a great year for Creative Cloud members. Just as we promised back when we introduced Creative Cloud in April, we’re providing exclusive tools and feature updates for fan favorite Creative Suite applications like Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver and more. And this is just the beginning. Just wait and see what we have in store for you in 2013!

In September, we launched Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition to members, allowing them to create, develop, and deliver iPad apps – all without writing code! As of our Create Now event this month, there have been more than 20,000 apps published via our Digital Publishing family.

Moment #9 | Muse added to Creative Cloud
Added to the Creative Cloud in August, Muse has continued to receive updates that allow users to design HTML websites like never before. At the recent Create Now event (more on that in part 2), Creative Cloud users learned about added features, which enable users to design for mobile with ease.

Moment #8 | Lightroom added to Creative Cloud
In June, photo buffs certainly received a treat when they found out that Lightroom 4 was available as part of the Creative Cloud membership. The Lightroom team was exceptionally proud of this release – as they found the right balance between powerful controls and an intuitive user experience. Combine that with publishing tools and you have one magnificent update to Lightroom.

Moment #7 | Illustrator 25th Anniversary
On March, 19, 1987, drawing and line art changed forever. Enter Adobe Illustrator. This flagship product turned the big 2-5 this year and took vector graphics to a whole new level with the release of the CS6 version, offered in the Creative Cloud.

Creative Spotlight: Todd Powelson on Adobe Touch Apps

When it comes to looking at options for portability, Todd Powelson has tried it all from dragging along his canvas, paints and brushes, then downsizing to markers. It wasn’t until Todd tried the Adobe Touch Apps that simplicity sunk in, allowing him to quickly concept anywhere and transfer creations to his desktop where he can further refine until he is satisfied.

In addition to the Cubism/Surrealism/Fauvist art he has shared with us today, Todd plans on utilizing new products, such as Edge Animate, to incorporate animation into his work.

Read the full Q&A below to find out how Todd found Adobe Touch Apps, how they and other Adobe products have benefited his creative process.

New MacBook Pro Retina Display Support

Adobe’s product teams are keenly aware of a creative professional’s desire to experience the highest quality creation experience. That is why I am delighted to announce our plans to optimize a selection of our products to display your content and creations on HiDPI displays, including the Retina Display available on the new MacBook Pro. Over the next few months, key Adobe products will deliver HiDPI display support to all customers on current releases.

HiDPI displays allow for a dramatic improvement in image fidelity and resolution. Naturally, designers, photographers and creative professionals want to take full advantage of this new technology. Software that is not native to HiDPI display uses interpolation to duplicate pixels to fill the screen, meaning text is not as sharp and images don’t have as much detail. The increased resolution of these displays requires that each product update the interface of the application and ensure that the content or the creation itself is displayed accurately with the appropriate level of fidelity. As an example, to enable HiDPI display support in Photoshop requires the replacement of 2500 icons and cursors and other engineering work which will be complete and ready for customers this Fall. This resolution shift in the new display technology presents unique challenges to teams that support bitmap, vector or video content. Therefore each product team will be releasing support for HiDPI display for Apple’s Retina Display as soon as the development is complete and tested for each individual product.

We expect to update the following products with HiDPI support, free to all CS6 and Creative Cloud customers, over the next few months:

Dreamweaver

Edge Animate

Illustrator

Lightroom

Photoshop

Photoshop Touch

Prelude

Adobe Premiere Pro

SpeedGrade

We are currently evaluating the roadmap for when other products may support HiDPI displays, and we will announce those plans as they are finalized.

At Adobe we work hard to support the latest innovations. We will continue to release security patches, bug fixes and support new hardware changes, like HiDPI display support, to all of our customers outside of our regular development cycles just as we have always done.  Additionally, with Creative Cloud we now have the opportunity to release new features as they are ready, outside of major release cycles. On August 28, Illustrator released several features exclusively to Creative Cloud members. I am excited to announce that beginning this Fall, even more our flagship products, including Photoshop, will begin to release features exclusively to Creative Cloud members. Creative Cloud members will be able to enjoy the latest product enhancements as they are ready without having to wait for major product releases.

This is an exciting time. Stay tuned over the next few months for more exciting developments to come.
