Security & Content Protection In Adobe Flash Media Server 3

Some of you might have read an article published by Reuters on Friday, September 19th suggesting that Adobe Flash Media Server 3 and the RTMPE protocol are not secure. We feel it is important for our customers, users and members of the press to receive clarification given that the claims are factually incorrect.

Following is a statement we hope clears up the inaccuracies and claims from the story.

A recent article incorrectly states that a security flaw exists in Adobe Flash Media Server software. Adobe acknowledges that not all customers using Adobe Flash Media Server software are aware they must utilize RTMPe or RTMPte (tunneled version) combined with SWF verification to provide maximum content protection. Adobe is committed to the security of all products and is actively working to ensure all customers are educated on how to properly protect content delivery. For more information on using RTMPe or RTMPte and SWF verification, Adobe Flash Media Server 3 customers can go to http://adobe.com/go/kb405456.

Adobe Extends XMP Capabilities with New Release

Adobe partners and developers who work with metadata should check out Adobe Labs for a new update of Adobe’s XMP (Extensible Metadata Platform) technology available for immediate download. The source code for the new Adobe XMP 4.1 has been released under the same open source license as its previous versions, reinforcing the company’s openness to platform technology such as metadata.

This new update, the Adobe XMP 4.1, provides new libraries for developers to read, write and update XMP in popular image, document and video file formats including: JPEG, PSD, TIFF, AVI, WAV, MPEG, MP3, MOV, INDD, PS, EPS and PNG. In addition, the rewritten XMP 4.1 libraries have been optimized into two major components, the XMP Core and the XMP Files.

The XMP Core enables the parsing, manipulating and serializing of XMP data, and the XMP Files enables the reading, rewriting, and injecting serialized XMP into the multiple file formats. The XMP Files can be thought of as a "file I/O" component for reading and writing the metadata that is manipulated by the XMP Core component.

Supported development environments for Adobe’s XMP 4.1 are: XCode 2.3 for Macintosh universal binaries, Visual Studio 2005 (VC8) for Windows, and Eclipse 3.x on any available platform. The XMP Core is available as C++ and Java sources with project files for the Macintosh, Windows and Linux platform. A Java version of XMP Files is under consideration for a future update.

This release candidate will be compatible with the upcoming Adobe Creative Suite 3 being unveiled March 27,2007. Developers can access the new release now at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/xmptoolkit/.

Photoshop Goes Online?

You’ve probably heard the buzz about Adobe bringing Photoshop online...Is Adobe really planning to put its pro-tools into an online services model?

Bringing Photoshop technology online would simply be an extension of our strategy to deliver the right Photoshop for Adobe’s diverse user base. And by Photoshop "branded" we don't mean the professional version of Photoshop - at least not initially. A Photoshop technology online offering would at first, most likely, be targeted at the consumer market.

This is a pretty logical next step for us when you consider the Photoshop product portfolio today. It includes: our flagship product Photoshop CS2, for creative professionals; the free Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition, which meets the needs of the casual photographer; Adobe Photoshop Elements with editing and sharing options for photography enthusiasts; and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, which provides a complete digital darkroom for professional and serious amateur photographers.

With the rise of social networking and media sharing sites, it’s clear that consumers want access to online experiences and need the help of trusted tools to keep content fresh and compelling. That's why we recently announced a partnership with Photobucket and digital video editing. http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/pressroom/pressreleases/200702/022107Photobucket.html

So look out for more announcements, like the one with our friends at Photobucket, as we expand the reach of our video and digital imaging technologies to new online communities.

Adobe Brings Video Editing Tools Online

Adobe is pioneering a new way to deliver its industry leading creative software technologies online, with the launch of its web-based video remix and editing technology. Adobe and Photobucket announced a partnership today to integrate Adobe web-based video remix and editing technology directly into the Photobucket user experience, giving 35 million Photobucket users direct, free access to world-class digital video editing tools. These free services are expected to be driven by advertising revenue - and by offering customers simple upgrade paths to its renowned Adobe Premiere Elements and Adobe Photoshop® Elements software, both market leaders in the home digital video and photo editing space.

No experience is required for Adobe’s web-based video remix and editing technology. It’s an easy-to-use video editor that eliminates the intimidation factor often associated with video editing and allows consumers the creative freedom to infuse personality and dramatic impact into their stories before releasing them to a broader online audience. Users can drag and drop music, effects, transitions and titles to videos, as well as reorder, trim and split clips, without having to deal with time-consuming downloads or platform issues.

Delivered as a lightweight Adobe Flash® application and built using Adobe Flex™ software, Adobe web-based video remix and editing technology is accessible to the more than 700 million personal computers that today support Adobe Flash Player software. The new video editing capabilities in Photobucket are initially available via limited public beta to Photobucket Pro users, and will be available for free to Photobucket’s entire user base of 35 million members by early March 2007.

What partnerships and breakthrough user experiences are in store for consumers? Stay tuned in the coming months for future announcements with Internet companies and media properties…

Adobe products on prerelease editions of this operating system. Now that Windows Vista is
publicly available, Adobe is conducting final testing of many of its products to:
• Identify and document issues with current versions of its software.
• Develop free patches for some of Adobe’s currently available products, so they run smoothly
on Windows Vista.
• Verify that upcoming releases of Adobe’s products meet rigorous standards of quality and
fully support Windows Vista.

Q. Do current versions of Adobe products support Windows Vista?
A. All Adobe products available as of January 30, 2007 were released before Windows Vista
became publicly available and so have not been fully designed for or tested on this new
operating system. However, many of those products run under Window Vista with minimal
issues. To find out more about how different Adobe products work with Windows Vista,
please see specific product sections later in this FAQ.

Introducing the Adobe Creative Solutions PR blog

The Adobe Creative Solutions PR team now has a blog! It's no secret that the next version of Adobe Creative Suite will be launched in Spring 2007 and this blog will keep everyone up to date of the events, announcements and sneak-peeks that will keep us busy until CS3 arrives...and beyond.

We'll also use this blog to keep you informed of all the other cool stuff that goes on in the Creative Solutions world - such the recently-introduced Photoshop Lightroom or kuler, Adobe's web-hosted color exploration tool.

Hope you enjoy the blog and we look forward to your feedback.
