About The Author

Michael Halbrook

Michael Halbrook manages the business consultants serving retail & travel clients within Adobe Consulting. His career has been focused on encouraging, creating & measuring digital experiences. Halbrook started his career as an on-air talent and the online director at three radio stations in St. Louis, then moved on to start his own dotcom. Later, after three years as a senior interactive project manager at St. Louis's largest media production facility, he spent three years at ad agency Rodgers Townsend, responsible for strategy & execution of digital marketing programs for AT&T and Anheuser Busch. Michael carries several regional and national ADDY Awards and multiple DMA Arrow Awards. He architected & produced one of Marketing Sherpa's 2006 "Top 12 Viral Sites of the Year" and produced a 2005 microsite for charity Network For Good that drove a 400% increase in donation levels during a holiday period following a devastating tsunami, when extreme donor fatigue was expected. In recent years as a consultant, he was involved in some of the most innovative and successful new uses of Adobe Insight. Adobe client engagements with successful innovation and bottom-line results included Redbox, Best Buy, Target, Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, Staples, Scottrade and Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Online. Today, Michael transfers that experience and passion into helping manage, grow and foster his team's success. He has lived and worked his entire life in the St. Louis metro area, but has never been to the top of the Gateway Arch. Tweet him at @Halbrook, but don't do it after 9 lest you incur the wrath of his loving wife and four amazing sons.

This breaks “out of the box” of what I typically choose to write about (analysis-related items related to Adobe Insight), but a good question came up on Twitter today from one of our clients (you follow the #AdobeInsight hash tag, right?) Although the question leans more technical/architectural, it’s an area where power analysts / power users...

What’re Small Elements? [Analysis with Insight]

Analytics · By Michael Halbrook On July 15, 2010 · 3 Comments

One question that beginner Adobe Insight analysts frequently ask is “What are Small Elements?” Actually, even advanced analysts ask this from time to time, and it’s a good question with a relatively simple answer.

Uniques Exceeded: The first 500,000 elements in a month

If you’ve used Adobe SiteCatalyst, you’re likely familiar with the “Uniques Exceeded”...

Excel to Insight Worksheets [Analysis with Insight]

Analytics · By Michael Halbrook On March 2, 2010 · 1 Comment

One of the very powerful and commonly-used visualizations in Adobe Insight is the Worksheet visualization. It allows an analyst to create ad hoc metrics and filters. Like a standard spreadsheet, every cell can contain a static value or a formula — including references to other cells. In addition, though, Insight Worksheet cells can contain formulas...

(Cross-posted on the Omniture Summit 2010 Blog)

There’s an abundance of opportunity for an online marketer at Omniture Summit, and you certainly have to carefully choose what you’ll do to maximize your time at Summit.

I’m hoping that everyone at Summit will make some time to explore what Omniture Insight might be able to...

Segments in 5 Minutes [Analysis with Insight]

It’s quite common that a customer starting to use Omniture Insight will tell us that one of the key business reasons for adding Insight to their tool set is for its power of Segmentation.

In Omniture Insight, Segments are simply user-defined, re-usable selections of data. They’re quick to use and powerful in analysis when...

Sure, Keep Your Data [Analysis with Insight]

Last Friday, I noticed someone on Twitter ask “Omniture is awesome, but… We want to track an application where we can’t have a third party getting personal customer info. Any Ideas?”

The answer was obvious to me, but I realize that for most of our customers, accustomed to having their data for most parts of...

A Tale of Three Dataset Schemas [Analysis with Insight]

Analytics · By Michael Halbrook On July 14, 2009 · 6 Comments

When the solution now called Omniture Insight became part of the Omniture Suite last year, marketers gained the powerful opportunity to integrate existing web (SiteCatalyst) data with other data points, including offline data. Many Omniture customers have already taken advantage of this opportunity and are proving that the “sky is the limit” as far...
