In case you may have missed it, this past Tuesday Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch posted his thoughts on Open Access to Content and Applications. If you want to get a better handle on Adobe’s vision for Flash and web tools this is a must read. In response to the recent introduction of a “magical device” that has spurred so much talk online over the past week, Kevin talks about the future of Flash and how Flash Player 10.1, the Open Screen Project, HTML5, smartphones, and more fit into it.
More recently, Kevin responded to comments on this post and shared is thoughts on Flash Player performance as well as reports of crashes in some browsers. As he notes, Adobe works directly with browser teams for Apple Safari, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer and Google Chrome to resolve issues and ensure that Flash Player is not released with any known crash bugs.
If you’re following the wider conversation on the future of the Flash Platform, be sure to check back or follow us on Twitter.
I completely agree with the post of “any user”:

I don’t use Windows. I’ve only got systems running Linux and Mac OS X and Flash is a mess when you’re not running Windows. Running Linux 64-bit is even worse. When you want to scroll, you’ve got to move your mouse pointer away from the Flash content, because you can’t scroll when hovering a Flash element. Flash is a big mess and I hate it.
Steve Jobs said Flash is a mess and HTML5 is the future. In my opinion he’s completely right. A website has to work on every platform, without any plugins. This is possible when using HTML5. What’s Adobe going to do? I only hear them talking about Mac OS X. How about Linux? How about 64-bit users? We always have to wait for years for Adobe to finally release a “stable” version. In a future full of HTML5 we don’t have to wait for Adobe to release a “working” version of the Flash plugin. Just buy a mobile device which has just been released, start the browser and view every website on the web without the need for a plugin.
If Adobe want delopers to keep on using Flash, Adobe has to:
- Finally release a version of the Flash plugin for Linux and Mac OS X which has the same performance as the Windows version;
- Finally get that 64-bit plugin out of the bèta status and get it to work just like the 32-bit Windows plugin (same performance and features);
- Get their Scene7 viewer working on Linux (as a Linux user I can’t even use websites which use this viewer);
- Finally bring applications like Flash and Photoshop to Linux.
I think this was an amazing post! I really love to use flash and I think it is great for modern websites. I really appreciate this great information you have shared.

I have read Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch take on open access to content and applications… I can see in his words that he is clearly disappointed about the fact that they have been ignored by apple…apple has always shown a cold shoulder to adobe flash … nobody knows the exact reason…most other mobile manufacturer’s don’t have this problem …I can see they are favoring HTML .but they are ignorant of the fact there are users out there who would like to see a flash program-me in apple

I find flash very difficult to work with when compared to the likes of swish etc. I appreciate that it is more advanced. I guess I just need to go on a course. Good post anyway. Thanks

Your blog is a great one. What really impresses me is that you are correctly mentioned that there are thousands of tools that are available to create a website or launch one but what matters is that you choose the right one, the one that gives you all that is actually needed.
