My Unofficial Guide to Adobe MAX 2010

So Adobe MAX is less than a week away. All throughout Adobe you will find a subtle mixture of finesse and chaos as we all prepare sessions, keynotes, labs, etc. Since it is such a large event it can often be overwhelming for attendees. This post will highlight some stuff that you shouldn’t miss if you are a Flasher.

Download the app
Adobe has created a really nice companion application for Android that you should definitely get. It is also a really nice example of AIR as well. It contains all the information you need. I’m not sure if we are doing an app for other platforms but I will try to find out. Unfortunately there is no mobile version of the MAX website.

Flash, Flex, HTML5: Ouch My Head Hurts!
This is the title of the regular session that I am doing. It was supposed to just be My Head Hurts but somehow the title got changed to this. Basically this will be an updated version of the session that I gave at FITC and Flash on the Beach. It covers all of the chaos that has happened in the industry over the last year and hopefully brings some sanity to it all. It covers much more than just Flash, Flex, and HTML5. The first session filled up so I will be doing this session a second time. The first is on Tuesday, October, 26th from 8:30 am – 9:30 am and the other is on Wednesday, October, 27th from 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm. Go and register if you want to check it out.

Build Your First Android Application in 90 Minutes with Flash CS5 and Adobe AIR
I will also be doing two BYOL (Bring Your Own Laptop) labs at MAX. The title is pretty self-explanatory as you can tell. We will be building a simple-yet-useful application for Android using Adobe AIR 2.5 and Flash CS5. The application is a simple calorie counter that saves state and includes some fundamental concepts that you will need to learn to be successful on Android. I highly recommend this workshop for anyone who needs a gentle-but-quick introduction on AIR for Android. The first class will be on Monday, October, 25th from 2:45 pm – 4:15 pm. The second will take place on Wednesday, October, 27th from 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm. Go and register if this looks good to you.

Master Collection Giveaways
I will definitely be giving away free software during MAX but it won’t be in the form of a dead drop. If you want a chance to win make sure you are following me on Twitter as that is where I will announce what I’m doing. You may have to drop everything and run!

Keynotes should be fun
We have already announced that Leonard Nimoy will hosting the sneaks this year but the regular keynotes look like they are also going to be fun. I am actually taking part in one of them so that should be interesting to say the least. We have some really cool announcements to make and I think people will leave with a very positive outlook for the future.

Important Flash sessions
There are many great sessions relating to Flash this year but I wanted highlight a couple that I think you absolutely should not miss. Here they are in no particular order:

UFC 121
If you are in town on Saturday night I might organize a group to go and watch UFC 121 somewhere. Let me know in the comments if you’re interested in seeing San Jose standout Cain Velasquez dominate Brock Lesnar to win the title.

Are You Smarter Than An Adobe Evangelist?
We are doing a game show on Tuesday, October 26 at 4:30 on the MAX community stage. It will be a quiz show featuring four Adobe evangelists (Me, Ryan Stewart, Michael Chaize and Serge Jespers) and four community members (Stacey Mulcahy, Chuck Freedman, Elad Elrom and Jesse Freeman). The game will be Family Feud style and is sure to be funny if nothing else. Come and watch us make jackasses of ourselves for your amusement.

That is all I can think of off the top of my head. Stay tuned to me on Twitter to get all the latest information and it also the best way to get a hold of me.
