Don’t Miss ‘Flash Jeopardy’ at MAX 2011

We’re two weeks away from MAX 2011 and we’re excited to share that we’ll be hosting Flash Jeopardy this year. This is a follow on to last year’s popular MAX game, Are You Smarter Than a Flash Platform Evangelist?, where we pitted Flash community members against our evangelists.

Flash Jeopardy will be based on (you guessed it) Jeopardy and hosted by our own Ben Forta! Unlike last year, this is all about our developers and how much they know about Flash. We’re challenging four contestants to flex their Flash knowledge in a Jeopardy! style Q&A format, and who better to help us stump them than you!

We’re looking for any Flash-related questions and answers be it about tools/framework (i.e., Flash Builder, Flex, Flash Professional, etc.), runtimes (i.e., Flash Player and AIR) and/or what you can do with Flash for mobile development, gaming, etc. We welcome any and all questions – easy to hard! Submit your questions to fprocks@adobe.com with “Flash Jeopardy” in the subject line, and it could be featured in the game!

For those attending MAX in LA, be sure to save the date for the game show. Join us on Tuesday, Oct. 4 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the Community Pavilion at the Flash Rocks Entertainment Lounge for the Flash developer showdown! Hope to see you there.

Flash Support on Windows 8 and Metro

We expect Windows desktop to be extremely popular for years to come (including Windows 8 desktop) and that it will support Flash just fine, including rich web based games and premium videos that require Flash. In addition, we expect Flash based apps will come to Metro via Adobe AIR, much the way they are on Android, iOS and BlackBerry Tablet OS today, including the recent number one paid app for the iPad on the Apple App Store, Machinarium, which is built using Flash tools and deployed on the Web using Flash Player and through app stores as a standalone app.

Adobe is about enabling content publishers and developers to deliver the richest experiences for their users, independent of technology, including HTML5 and Flash. We are working closely with Microsoft, Google, Apple and others in the HTML community to drive innovation in HTML5, to make it as rich as possible for delivering world-class content on the open Web and through App Stores.

We are excited about the innovation and opportunities that are available to our customers and Adobe as the web and platforms evolve across devices, including Windows 8 and Metro.

The Adobe Flash Platform Helps Tell Woven Interactive’s Big Fish Story

Woven Interactive, an Atlanta-based digital marketing agency with a client roster that includes BP, Disney, Lifetime Channel, Lucent Alcatel, NASCAR.com, TNT, Turner Broadcasting and Reader’s Digest, has always been known to stay on top of new technologies and digital experiences. The company and president and co-founder, Charlie Schulze, knew that development agility, performance and the ability to deliver content across multiple devices would be vital to the success of its newest mobile and tablet game about an adventurous fish, Comb Over Charlie. The company turned to the Adobe Flash Platform to make this a reality.

Built using Adobe AIR and ActionScript with Adobe Flash Builder 4.5 and Adobe Flash Professional, Schulze was able to create a fast-paced game that could be delivered seamlessly across devices, running with native performance.  More specifically, the Flash Platform made it possible for the app to be developed once and published across multiple platforms using the same code base in minimal time, even several hours!

Woven Interactive also used Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 Web Premium to develop and promote the game, Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended to help with the creation of characters and other elements for the app, and Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5 to develop the promo site.

Initially created for Android, Comb Over Charlie is now available for download across more platforms, including BlackBerry Tablet OS and Apple iOS. Charlie and his team are excited about bringing this app to other websites, social media sites like Facebook and future devices using this streamlined workflow.

Be sure to download the game for Android (free trial version), BlackBerry Tablet OS and iOS! To find out more about the integration between Adobe technologies or to download the Comb Over Charlie app for yourself go here.

Create Your Audio-biography with the Adobe Flash Platform app MusicMapper

This year’s GRAMMY Awards ceremony was filled with worthy winners and amazing musical performances from Mick Jagger, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars and Arcade Fire to name a few. To encourage music fans to do more than watch, The Recording Academy launched a social media platform called “MusicIsLifeIsMusic.” Along with the platform, The Recording Academy and Adobe technology partner, HYFN, turned to the Adobe Flash Platform to create MusicMapper, an Adobe AIR powered desktop app that lets users tag songs and share them through social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, write about what those songs mean to them, and map them to a physical location all to create their very own musical audio-biography.

With the MusicMapper desktop app, The Recording Academy was able to extend the GRAMMY brand from the Web to the desktop in only a matter of weeks thanks to Adobe Flash Builder. Within the first few months of the apps launch, there were more than 220,000 downloads, and they were even able to capture the ever elusive teen and young audience demographic that so many brands want to engage with. With Adobe AIR’s cross-platform abilities, HYFN can continue to provide The Recording Academy with an app that can easily improve functionality, and offer new revenue opportunities.

Download the app for your desktop, and learn more about how The Recording Academy and HYFN used Adobe AIR to keep fans engaged with MusicMapper during the 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards here.
