Dreamweaver CC Gets New Live Highlight, Modernized Live View, Enhanced CSS Designer, and More.

A few months ago we announced the release of Dreamweaver CC, with several exciting new features (CSS Designer, Creative Cloud Sync, and more). Today, we are happy to announce the release of our first CC update, with some new features, user experience improvements, and bug fixes.

Note from the editor: You may have noticed the small gap in time between the main Creative Cloud release and this update. A shorter development cycle is one of the benefits you receive when you become part of creative cloud.

Do you find yourself leaving Dreamweaver CC to test your content in the browser to make sure it’s accurate and looks good? With the new Modernized Live View in Dreamweaver CC we have integrated a brand new rendering engine, which displays web content with the same performance and HTML5 technology support available in Google Chrome™. Now you can spend more time in Dreamweaver CC and less time switching in and out of the browser to test your content.

The new Live Highlight feature enables you to visualize the relationships between the HTML elements in Live View and applied CSS selectors. Inspect and highlight elements in Live View in real time while you interact with the CSS Designer. Simply hover and click Selectors in the CSS Designer to see Live Highlight in action.

After carefully customizing workspaces, keyboard shortcuts, site settings, and preferences on one workstation, it can be tedious to do the same from scratch on a second workstation. With Creative Cloud and Sync Settings in Dreamweaver CC, you can now sync your workspaces, keyboard shortcuts, etc. in seconds with the click of a button.

Sync Settings

Customize your workflow once, and take it with you wherever you go – all through the Creative Cloud.

The new CSS Designer in Dreamweaver CC was released early June and we are continuing to listen to your feedback and improve the feature based on that. We’ve introduced a number of usability enhancements and a new color picker to improve productivity by speeding up visual CSS editing workflows.

In addition, we have improved our Code View by adding line number highlighting and highlighting of matching tags, as well as CSS selector code hints including Preferences support for color customization. We’ve also added support for PHP 5.4 to enable you to develop dynamic pages with ease and confidence, and updated our jQuery Mobile library to version 1.8.3.

We hope that you are as excited about these new features in Dreamweaver as we are, and look forward to your feedback on this release and suggestions for future enhancements. Visit creative.adobe.com to download the new version of Dreamweaver CC.

  • Nice update downloaded before but didn’t realise what was new.. thanks for the info

  • You guys rock—awesome job on the update!

  • The Live view is great, but I am very disappointed that popular responsive frameworks like Bootstrap or Kube still don’t show up correctly in the Design view. This makes it very difficult to work with these framework as the grid only shows up correctly in the Live view, but is off in the Design view. Can we expect an improvement in this area?

  • My Creative Cloud app does not say DW CC needs an update. Can you post a version number so I can check?
    Mine says build number 6931.

    • @CC – you can get the latest DW CC update by going to Help menu and clicking on on “Updates…”. Typically, it takes 24-hours for the automated updater mechanism to notify you of the new releases.

    • @CC:
I had the same problem. Restarting the Creative Cloud app and checking for updates fixed it.

  • Unfortunately after the Update the live preview does not work anymore – OS X 10.7.5, Dreamweaver CC german – so, its not really a highlight for me :) … any idea? Restart of the System does not help …

  • The biggest change I think many developers have wanted, and I’m sad to see still hasn’t been implemented is a good clean code syntax theme setup. Hacking a better syntax color scheme into Dreamweaver just isn’t the best way to go.

    • @Brian, great point. Adding my vote for better code syntax color schemes. Standard support for popular designs like Solarized would be great.

  • AT LAST…!! A decent colour picker in Dreamweaver…

  • I’m having a problem with the latest update. The Ctrl + Arrow keys no longer work as they’re supposed to. Ctrl + Left Arrow is not he equivalent of Home key, and the Ctrl + Right Arrow is working like the End key.

    • Same here. Text keyboard navigation/selection works normally in Design mode but reacts differently in Code mode. Ctrl-Left goes to start of the line and Ctrl-Right goes at the end. They seem to have swapped it with Alt-Left and Alt-Right in the shortcuts for some obscure reason.

Workaround: in the keyboard shortcuts, remap each of these
      – Code editing / Move word left – Ctrl+Left
      – Code editing / Move word right – Ctrl+Right
      – Select word left – Ctrl+Shift+Left
      – Select word right – Ctrl+Shift+Right
Note: Remapping these removes the associated Document editing shortcuts from the preferences. There might be unforeseen consequences.

    • Same here. This is very disruptive. Please fix.

  • I use DreamWeaver almost exclusively in code view. I greatly appreciate the highlighting aids that we added in the recent update, but one thing that changed to make this much worse is that now when you Select All in your code, your screen pushes up to the top of your page. This is a terrible change. The reason for this is that I am constantly copying and pasting code out of DreamWeaver into an aspect of a CMS, and for it to push me up to the top of the code every time forces me to find where I was in the code each time I return. This is not the way that other text editors work, and I would almost describe it as a bug. Very frustrating when having to repeatedly copy and paste code into other environments.

  • Is anyone having a problem where in css designer if they click in a field once (for example click on left margin) where it used to just give a 0px and put it in the css file. While now it doesn’t do anything untill you give it a value, then scale it back to 0. its annoying me like crazy, it was great just having one click to set things as zero.

  • The decision to discontinue support for Coldfusion on Dreamweaver CC is just incredible to me and will surely be looked back on as a mistake. Even down to the level of removing .cfm files from Extensions.txt and the MMDocumentTypes.xml files?! Why further disappoint your already dwindling developer base for the sake of a couple of bytes of text? Yes Coldfusion Builder exists but it’s absolutely not a replacement for Dreamweaver, lacking even basic things like HTML 5 support. Come on Adobe.

Please correct this in a future update.
