Learn more about Joint Accounts

The main purpose of the Joint Accounts is to provide a suitable method of synchronizing multiple reader accounts for the same user, particularly if the user has purchased books from multiple Vendors who support Vendor ID accounts. Again the number of devices is limited to 6 for each Adobe ID account. After two or more accounts are joined, the group as a whole will have the limit of 6, not multiples of 6 devices. To be more specific, the limits are: 6 standalone devices and 6 mobile and tethered devices.

Should I go with Joint Accounts instead of Multiple Accounts activation? The main advantage is Join Account allows single sign‐on, for example the reader only needs to enter one credential, the reader application can fetch the joined accounts which subsequently enables the reader to read books fulfilled with any of these accounts. And another difference is the reader can sign on to a different device/application with a single account, without re‐entering different account credential multiple times.

Deactivating a device from your ADE account

You can add multiple devices to your ADE account. Having two or more devices registered to the same account is useful if you want to read your book on multiple devices without having to buy it again. However, if you’ve activated too many devices, or if you want to update your OS, or simply need to move to a new or upgraded PC, you may want to deactivate ADE so you can free up your books for more devices or to put them back on the same PC after you upgrade it.  You can deactivate ADE directly from the application.  Here’s how to do it.

Select the menu item Help–> Erase Authorization.

While deactivating in ADE 4.0.3, the user has to provide valid user credentials to deactivate.

Deactivate1

Deactivate2

Deactivate3

For Vendor account, the user has to provide both the User name and Password by selecting the vendor.

Deactivate4

For Multiple or Joint Accounts, each accounts needs to be deactivated separately.

Adobe Digital Editions – Anonymous Activation

If you do not have an Adobe id, and want to get right to reading the book, you can choose to authorize your device without an ID. You can continue to download and read all books in this utopian environment, as long as you don’t need to transfer these books to a different device, or you de-authorize ADE. Now if you wish to do one of the above, and still preserve access to the books you’ve currently downloaded, follow the steps below:

anonymous

So this gives rise to the question: If I have activated ADE without an ID, is there a way to activate with an Adobe ID and continue reading books fulfilled using the anonymous account, and also move the books to other devices? The answer is YES, but there is a catch. You can achieve it, by creating a new Adobe ID and activate ADE again directly without de-authorizing the existing anonymous account. The catch here is, it should be a fresh Adobe ID which is not activated on any other device or computer.

anonymous2

I have an Adobe ID and am using it on another machine. Is it possible to associate the existing ID with the anonymous account?” No, because once an ID is activated, a unique UUID will get associated with this user account. In the fresh ID case, it will be associated with the UUID of the Anonymous account. “Do I have to maintain both the accounts?” You can join your existing account with the newly created account, which will allow devices activated with one Adobe ID (or Vendor ID) to read books previously fulfilled with another Adobe ID (or Vendor ID).
