E-signatures Accelerate Workflows Across Many Industries

E-signatures are paving the way for many organizations to begin the transition to digital document management. We hear first-hand from our customers and partners how e-signatures speed up the approval cycle and streamline the process of tracking and managing deals, contracts and workflows. Our customers (and theirs) are getting to revenue faster.

Whether you are a large corporation or a small business, Adobe EchoSign is the electronic signature solution businesses can trust. To continue celebrating National ESIGN Day this week, we wanted to showcase how our customers, across a multitude of industries, have streamlined their processes and reaped the benefits of moving business forward by adopting e-signatures:

Health Care – EchoSign has helped many hospitals and physician groups  transition from paper contracts to digital contract management. Two examples:  St. Charles Health System and University Physicians Network. Administrators are now able to eliminate hefty printing and postage costs, while also speeding up the flow of vital documents within finance, payroll, insurance carrier documents and payroll – reducing turnaround times from months  to days.

Automotive – EchoSign works with big names in the auto industry such as KIA and Jaguar Land Rover.  For KIA, EchoSign supports high volume signature processes using the MegaSign feature. This feature cuts contract completion time in half and ensures all contracts are delivered securely. For Jaguar Land Rover, EchoSign was put in place to accelerate product development and help ensure compliance with legally mandated documentation.

Internet/Technology - EchoSign works with big names in the digital space including Foursquare and Groupon. For Foursquare, EchoSign is vital to the company’s drive to become a paperless environment, including their new hire onboarding process. At Groupon, EchoSign made it easier for merchant partners to review, sign and retain their contract paperwork electronically.

Has your company gone digital yet? Never worry about printing, faxing, or document whereabouts again. With EchoSign, you can go from send to signed in a matter of minutes-and keep track of the process every step of the way.

Top 10 Bizarre Deals and Contracts

ES-blog_ESIGN_day1_draft01

Over the course of history, and the not so distant past, there have been many bizarre requests, contracts signed and out-of-the-ordinary agreements made in business, politics, music, sports and even childhood promises to best friends. In honor of National ESIGN Day yesterday, and our weeklong celebration, we count them down for you here!

10.  Elvis Presley had a record deal with RCA Victor for $40,000, the largest amount paid for a single performer by a record company up to that time. The catch: Elvis never signed the contract! Presley was a minor at the time, and therefore his father had to sign on his behalf.

9. Baseball star, Alex Rodriguez, signed a 10-year contract with the Yankees in December 2007 that guaranteed him $275 million in cash.  However, this deal didn’t include seats to the game, but did give A-Rod the option of purchasing tickets!

8. The band Van Halen contractually required that a bowl of M&M’s have all brown M&M’s removed before each show. The reason behind the band’s specific request: if the promoter did not read the agreement well enough to catch this, then they would be  likely to forget important requirements about their equipment as well.  Van Halen members would raise quite a ruckus if the deal wasn’t met.

7. In 1986, the Astros re-signed pitching reliever Charlie Kerfeld, paying him $110,037.37 as part of his contract.  The demand for such a specific number came from his jersey, number 37.

6. Albert Einstein and his wife Mileva became estranged after he achieved success.  In order to continue living under the same roof, he proposed a contract for responsibilities. These responsibilities included: “You will make sure that my clothes and laundry are kept in good order, I will receive my three meals regularly in my room, and you’ll stop talking to me if I request it.”

5. Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise both signed a prenuptial agreement before their marriage in 2006. The details: for each year the couple stayed married, Holmes would collect $3 million dollars. Despite their divorce in 2012 and the estimated $18 million expected, Katie Holmes  only receives $400,000 dollars annually for child support.

4. MLB catcher Harry Chiti is the only player that has ever been traded for himself. You might be asking, how was this possible? Simple, he was traded to an expansion club team in exchange for a “player to be named later”. After playing poorly, the receiving team chose him as the player they would trade back.

3. When President Obama signed the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, he used 22 pens.  Presidential signing pens have become famous and are now given to those who helped pass the bill as a memento.

2. In 2007, the Oakland Raiders negotiated a $68 million dollar contract over 6 years with their number one draft pick, Jamarcus Russell. One problem, he was cut before making the team but the Raiders still had to pay him millions.

1. In 10th Grade, MLB pitcher Justin Verlander made a deal with his best friend, Daniel Hicks, to give him .001% of his pro signing bonus (should he ever get one) in exchange for 50 cents to buy a chocolate milk. Daniel kept the signed note over the years and presented it to Verlander when he was ultimately drafted by the Tigers and received a $3.12 million dollar signing bonus. If Verlander made good on this childhood promise, that would be $31.20 (that’s enough to buy a few more chocolate milks.)

Check out some of these historical signature moments you won’t believe, watch the video here.

We told you they were bizarre! Do you know of any deals to add to this list or even top it? Share with us on the @EchoSign Twitter account and Adobe EchoSign Facebook Page.

Adobe EchoSign Celebrates National ESIGN Day!

ES-blog_ESIGN_day1 Today is the 14th annual National ESIGN Day, and we’re celebrating all the ways business has advanced since the Electronic Signatures in Global and National CommerceAct  (ESIGN Act) was signed on June 30th, 2000 by President Bill Clinton.  The ESIGN Act ensured the validity and legal effect of  contracts entered into electronically. The paperless movement was launched.

At Adobe EchoSign, it’s our business to know about the importance of signing your name on big deals, sales and hiring contracts, insurance forms, real estate ventures, and vendor process documents. How about your John Hancock on receipts, credit card charges, and that annual birthday card to your lovely Aunt Trish? In fact, throughout your lifetime, chances are you will sign on the dotted line 500,000 times.

With the inception and adoption of electronic signatures –  and intuitive, trusted e-signing solutions from Adobe EchoSign – the process of signing, sending and tracking digital documents made things a whole lot more convenient, safe and secure. But it wasn’t always this easy breezy.

Today, join us as we celebrate all the ways that modern business has moved forward since the ESIGN Act in 2000, while paying homage to some of the biggest deals and “signature moments” in history.

Check out our new video on Historical Signature Moments (we think you’ll like it!):

Stay tuned all week to @EchoSign on Twitter, hashtag #esignday, and to the Adobe EchoSign Facebook Page for interesting (and sometimes shocking!) facts about the most famous, and infamous signatures and deals that have been forged throughout history.  We’ll be asking trivia questions in social media all week! We hope you’ll play along and test your knowledge.

Progressive and Other Financial Services Companies Innovate with E-signatures

ES blog_progressive2

Insurance and financial services companies face a number of challenges in today’s fast-paced digital workplace – from rising operational costs, to customers demanding faster turnaround times – these businesses are working hard to identify solutions, as well as opportunities for growth, in a period of transformation.

By taking advantage of digital technology, especially electronic signature solutions, across entire processes, insurance and financial services companies can tackle some of the most predominant challenges that they are facing today.

  • Improving customer experience – Customers expect seamless digital experiences that enable them to rapidly complete transactions without interruptions.
  • Securing interactions – In this digital age, companies need to meet increased demands around security, privacy protection and compliance requirements across more diverse geographies and businesses than ever before.
  • Increasing operating efficiencies – Financial services companies need to cut down on the significant amounts of paper required to accomplish signature-intensive processes across lending, insurance, treasury, account and trade operations.

As a testament to this changing landscape, Progressive is partnering with Adobe to make electronic signature solutions available to its agencies. Adobe will now offer Adobe EchoSign + PDF Pack to Progressive’s more than 35,000 agencies in the US to help them tackle their biggest business challenges, while combining the reliability of Adobe PDF with e-signatures, so agents can close business faster, more easily and securely. It will initially be made available to agencies in Missouri and Illinois and roll out nationwide later this year.

“We’re pleased to be able to work with Adobe as a preferred provider of electronic signature solutions and offer Adobe EchoSign + PDF Pack to our independent agents across the country,” said Dwight Hager, director of distribution for Progressive’s Central Region. “Adobe’s solutions will help provide a powerful platform to reduce operational costs, improve customer experience and save time for our business, agents and customers.”

With Adobe EchoSign, the entire process of getting to a signed agreement is easy. Single or multiple documents can be packaged and sent for signature, removing the hassle of using paper and multiple email attachments.  Once the agreement is signed, it’s simple to track, manage and store them securely in Adobe EchoSign and send copies back to all parties.

With Adobe PDF Pack, paper or electronic agreements can be easily converted to secure, reliable Adobe PDF files that can be easily sent for signature via Adobe EchoSign.  It can also be used to create PDF documents to share with clients such as letters, brochures, and policy change notifications, to ensure they see exactly what they should see.

Progressive joins other similar services institutions in taking advantage of the benefits of Adobe EchoSign. Take NEC Financial Services and Card Assets as two such examples. Both financial services companies needed to improve efficiencies and cut costs in order to better serve their customers, and decided that the best way to do so was to transition their multi-step, manual application workflow to a more streamlined, automated one by implementing Adobe EchoSign e-signatures.

With EchoSign, NEC Financial Services and Card Assets achieved the following results:

  • Reduced turnaround time for signed agreements from days to as little as minutes.
  • Increased business by completing more transactions per month.
  • Eliminated virtually all printing and postage costs, reducing operational costs.
  • Enabled customers to sign quickly and easily on mobile devices.

Adobe on Adobe: How EchoSign reduced our procurement contract completion cycle by 73%

Laptop_Handshake

As companies continue to evolve and look for ways to conduct business more efficiently, many procurement heads, business managers and finance departments are looking for ways to speed up document approvals, digitize processes that work for a multitude of vendors and ultimately reduce the lag time (and headaches) that are attached to paper. Our own Procurement team put EchoSign to the test to see how the adoption of e‐signatures and digital document workflows could actually help Adobe streamline processes and keep business moving with our global partners and customers.

Let’s Talk Numbers

Adobe Procurement works with a contract average of almost 1,500 contracts/quarter. The majority of those are in North America, but some also support international offices. Additionally, 85% of the non-revenue generating contracts within the overall company are handled by Adobe Procurement. Adobe had a contract management system in place, but parts of the process were still manual and paper-based, specifically the old “requirement” for a wet signature process for executing contracts. We weren’t alone, in fact, this situation is a very common one. A 2013 survey found that 98% of US companies still use paper in their contracting process. This is in spite of the fact that two‐thirds of respondents agree that paper is less secure and 70% of those surveyed agree that there are material efficiency gains.

Let’s Talk Results

At Adobe, this has all changed for the better. Our Procurement team removed the roadblocks slowing down business and as a result became more agile and responsive to the business overall. Contract completion cycle was reduced by 73%: going from 2‐3 weeks to 1‐2 days. Currently, 79% of contracts are completed in 7 days or less. Additionally, there was a 70% increase in contract completion and the Procurement department’s paper and supplies costs were cut down by 80%.

With more than 3‐million contracts e‐signed on a monthly basis across sales, HR, Procurement, health, education, legal and government, Adobe EchoSign knows a thing or two about what customers are looking for in an e‐signature service. Get contracts, documents and orders signed in a fraction of the time from anywhere and see your document through every step of the process with the detailed EchoSign audit feature.

Say goodbye to managing the influx of scans, faxes and printouts by bringing on EchoSign to work with your existing business applications. It’s time to start to show‐off your numbers by minimizing paperwork and using that time to focus on growing your numbers with your clients and partners.

Streamlined contracting enhances productivity

echosign blog 2

Sharing information about technological developments is vital to closing sales, but also requires companies like NetApp to protect their interests and intellectual property with nondisclosure agreements (NDAs). With Adobe EchoSign, NetApp has automated productivity and document security by creating NDA templates e-signatures that can be signed from any desktop, laptop, or mobile device.

“Because people can sign documents anywhere with Adobe EchoSign, we can meet deadlines that would have been impossible with paper versions,” says Connie Brenton, director of operations and chief of staff in the legal department at NetApp. “By giving sales representatives self-service access to pre-approved NDAs through Adobe EchoSign, agreements are completed and processed significantly faster.”

NetApp can complete NDAs three times faster in Adobe EchoSign than the old paper-based process. Plus, total contract turnaround time has been slashed from 19 days to five days. Read more here.

SXSW Day Four Recap

Day four at #SXSWi proved to be another one for the books for Adobe EchoSign, no surprise there! With more Me Agreements completed and many more conference attendees learning about the ease and convenience of e-signatures, EchoSign continued to be a hit with the interactive crowd.daysxsw6.jpeg.JPG

daysxsw5.jpeg.JPGThe day started with the EchoSign team hitting the streets with the EchoBot for more pictures, robot meet and greets and Me Agreement e-signing. Once again, the conference crowd couldn’t have been more excited to meet with EchoBot, who charmed everyone from tech geniuses to little children. While out and about the EchoSign team was able to interact with some of the top tech influencers attending SXSWi. These influencers were enthusiastic about EchoSign and e-signatures, and enjoyed their chance to demo the program by filling out and sharing Me Agreements. The simplicity of Adobe EchoSign, as well as the convenience of the functionality were some of the most noted features among those who had the chance to run through the demo, and many were very surprised by all the extra features and benefits of the software.

After dominating the streets of Austin for a few hours, the EchoBot was invited to be the guest of honor at the daysxsw4.jpeg#ChooseHarder party thrown by @HARDER and @TheOnion. The party was thrown at famous Austin venue, Mohawk, and featured an amazing performance by The Hold Steady. The EchoBot had a chance to jam out to the band and interact with many more tech and music influencers. The crowd was great and after watching the band, party-goers were ready to boogey down with EchoBot and talk e-signatures with the EchoSign team.

As the sun set on another gorgeous day, Austin buildings lit up with mobile billboards. Each billboard daysxsw3prompted conference attendees to find the Echobot around Austin for prizes and encouraged people to learn what EchoSign is all about. The night wrapped up with the Adobe VIP party back at the #UseMeLeaveMe digital campground. An incredible performance by Aloe Blacc allowed the EchoSign team to once again enjoy some great live music. Campground festivities didn’t just include the amazing live performance though, our team also got to try out the video grams, grab some grub from the food trucks and even run through some Me Agreement demos with other party attendees.

All in all day four was another home run. The team is bringing it home with one last day on the streets of Austin to wrap up SXSWi today, and we plan to leave it all out on the field!

Here at Adobe, we’re always working to find new ways to help you finish business faster, streamline business processes, and increase efficiency. Going paperless with Adobe EchoSign allows your organization to get documents signed anywhere, anytime, on any device securely.

So we’re excited to announce our Winter release that delivers major updates to the EchoSign service to help drive ROI for your organization. In particular this release consists of:

  • Powerful tools to automate the signature process
  • Major advances in the usability of EchoSign, making it even easier to use
  • Significant innovations to the platform with new REST and SOAP capabilities for developers
  • Enhanced integration capabilities with partners like eOriginal, Salesforce.com, Apttus, Conga, and more
  • Deep Zoom capabilities
  • New 7×24 support, chat-support, and community support forums

When you have a document that needs e-signing, setting it up to be sent out via Adobe EchoSign is easy. With our latest release, our customers can now quickly and easily customize documents to align to business workflows before sending them for signatures. By creating customized templates for form fields that include field locations, field properties and field validations the process of sending documents for signature is simple. These field templates can be applied when sending a document through the EchoSign Web UI, the APIs, or from CRM systems such as Salesforce.com, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, etc. Fields can now be easily added to documents even when the documents get generated from third parties.

We heard your feedback and are improving the signing experience by providing clickable hyperlinks within documents. This not only allows signers to access external locations but also allows navigation within a single document through a table of contents. Additional new capabilities include support for multi-line text fields and resizable signature and initial fields within documents.

We have also significantly improved the readability of documents and the performance for our customers by leveraging the industry-leading document imaging capabilities available through the Adobe document processing technology. Additionally signers and senders also now have the option to zoom in or out on documents for better readability.

We are also announcing true integration with eOriginal to support use-cases where customers want their documents to be vaulted. “Many companies have electronically signed contracts that may have transferrable financial value whether for securitization, collateralization or general transfer of ownership. eOriginal is dedicated to full lifecycle support for our customers and now offers complete electronic transaction management with the seamless integration between our two platforms” stated Ralph Burns, Chief Revenue Officer of eOriginal. “We are excited to work with Adobe EchoSign to bring this capability to customers.”

Last, but not least, Adobe EchoSign is committed to offering thorough, helpful and reliable customer service. Improvements made to our customer support process include the presence of 24/7 assistance from our support team. Yep, any time of the day, any question – the new chat support feature and a new customer forum have been added to the website so customers can get their problems solved and the answer they need quickly and without hassle.

We’re excited about these improvements to the easiest e-Signature platform used for transacting millions of documents every month by companies such as Groupon, Time Warner Cable, British Telecom, Kia, Tivo, NEC Financial Services. We want to thank you for all your feedback. We are starting to work on the next set of exciting new updates to the service. Let us know how you like the new capability and if you have ideas or suggestion please submit them here.

From all of us at Adobe, we wish you and your families Happy Holidays and a Very Happy New Year!
