Three tomatoes are walking down the street- a poppa tomato, a momma tomato, and a little baby tomato. Baby tomato starts lagging behind. Poppa tomato gets angry, goes over to the baby tomato, and smooshes him… and says, “Catch up.”
– Mia Wallace, Pulp Fiction
MAX was a blast, and it was great to meet some of the Director developers face-to-face. Fun bunch that likes to stay out late Now I’m back in San Francisco, mostly recovered, and getting back to work.
First, a few announcements:
Mozilla Firefox 1.0 released today! Mozilla licensed our standard installer for the plug-in finder service. Now, when users that don’t yet have the player hit content, all they have to do is click the puzzle piece to start the player install. Makes it a little easier than surfing to our site for the download.
We also published two new case studies in the Director Showcase, Science Alberta Foundation – Wonderville 3D, and Cable in the Classroom – eLECTIONS: Your Adventure in Politics
More in the world of marketing:
Someone posted on Direct-L that it would be good to have a list of big name companies and projects that use Director. This is a great idea, so feel free to send me lists of projects, companies, and contact info if possible (I need to get permission from the companies) at firstname.lastname@example.org with a subject of “Made with Director.”
And finally, in the news last week:
Shockwave.com is super-sizing its marketing efforts for its GameBlast subscription service with a partnership with McDonalds. The subscriptions are just one of many gaming-related prizes in the Monopoly Best Chance Game, from November 2 through 22. (10/1/2004 news link)
By the way, Shockwave.com/GameBlast is the home of Shroomz, a Director/Shockwave game, which won the Best Web/Downloadable Game of the Year in last Friday’s Billboard Digital Entertainment Awards. Unfortunately, we didn’t win the Advergame category (see 10/29 post), even though Shockwave dominated with 3 of the 4 finalists slots. At least it stayed in the family – the winner was a Flash-based chicken…
