When you’re an online fur­ni­ture retailer cater­ing to cus­tomers with a strong appetite for design and qual­ity, you need a web­site that is as com­pelling as the prod­ucts you sell. That’s why the Ger­man e-tailer WOONIO GmbH selected Adobe Mar­ket­ing Cloud, includ­ing Adobe Scene7 within the Adobe Expe­ri­ence Man­ager solu­tion, to improve the qual­ity and deliv­ery of its rich, dynamic online content.

Inside WOONIO’s web­site is a con­fig­u­ra­tor that lets cus­tomers com­bine their ideas with the exper­tise of expe­ri­enced design­ers. Every­thing from tables to beds to chairs is cus­tomiz­able. Plus, it auto­mat­i­cally sends orders to man­u­fac­tur­ers when a cus­tomer makes a purchase.

When launched in 2009, the orig­i­nal con­fig­u­ra­tor required a third-party ven­dor to cre­ate vir­tual prod­uct mod­els that were expen­sive and time con­sum­ing to pro­duce. The mod­els also tied up com­put­ing resources, and resulted in slow screen refreshes after users made changes. In one inci­dent, sys­tem demand was so high that it caused a server out­age that stopped busi­ness alto­gether. These prob­lems were cut­ting into revenues.

Our busi­ness model is focused entirely on online com­merce,” says Roland Waedt, founder and man­ag­ing part­ner at WOONIO. “Our audi­ence wants to quickly see their self-designed piece of fur­ni­ture and will not wait an eter­nity for a pic­ture to show each change they entered.”

WOONIO chose Scene7 and Adobe Expe­ri­ence Man­ager as its long-term solu­tion. It allowed WOONIO to use real pho­tos of prod­ucts in a new con­fig­u­ra­tor. The new visual con­fig­u­ra­tor enables WOONIO to update prod­ucts and launch new prod­ucts with­out an exter­nal provider. It also lets the com­pany con­duct mar­ket research, such as test­ing user response to new prod­ucts. Plus, because Scene7 is offered as a hosted ser­vice, WOONIO no longer has to worry about server space and poten­tial down­time issues.

The Adobe tech­nol­ogy has sim­pli­fied and accel­er­ated work­flows at WOONIO. Accord­ing to Waedt, it is sav­ing the com­pany 80%, com­pared with the pre­vi­ous solu­tion. Fur­ther­more, the hosted solu­tion has helped dou­ble con­ver­sions, largely because per­for­mance and reli­a­bil­ity have improved and cus­tomers have more prod­uct fil­ters and choices than ever.
