Exporting as GIF, PNG8 was a weak point of Fireworks for long time.
Especially for mobile application, mobile web site, the size of bitmap is big matter since downloading speed is critical. Our engineering team devote so much time to make improvement for color optimization algorithm.
Here is the result comparison among exporting PNG8 from CS5.1 and CS5.0 Amazing!

Will this also get the existing CS5 users with the comming update?
Yes you will!
Looks good. Thank you for your work and please keep the updates coming!
whence the updater is going to be released.All the official version automatically update the patches??
The patch will be release after CS5.1 is released.
Did they change from one color quantization algorithm to another? Was it really that much work?
Great stuff. Thanks guys.
Any chance you could have a look at the issues with saving dual monitor workspace layouts if there is still time?
Amazing indeed. Image optimization is one of the more important tasks of Fireworks, and it’s about time to see the problem with 8-bit images fixed.
@Robin
I think the workspace issue with multiple moitors is there in all programs using the CS4 applicaiton frame (in Windows, at least).
Glory be, it finally happened. Thank you so, so much!
Is there now a 5.5 FW or a 5.1?
