Hi Rob! What does the word “support” mean here? (Usually an operating system change will support existing applications, not the other way around, which is why the phrase confuses me.)

Do you mean that, so far as we’ve been able to test, the new OS doesn’t break existing apps, but that we’d love to work with anyone who sees a difference? Or…?

@John – “Support” means that we have added Windows 7 to the Adobe AIR system requirements page. We have performed extensive testing of AIR 1.5 with Windows 7. In addition, many users that have been running Windows 7 betas have been doing this already for quite some time. As always, if a user runs into an issue, they are encouraged to submit issues back to our team using our feedback form.

    The user directory is not understood in Windows 7. The AIR application executes correctly in windows vista, but in case of windows 7 Home Premium, the statement File.userDirectory.resolvePath(“mydirectory/myfile.db”);
is not executed properly, as there is no directory or file created in the user Directory.
Please provide a solution for this problem.
    Thanks.
    Mohan.

@Mohan, calling resolvePath doesn’t actually create the file or directory. You need to pass the file reference to a FileStream instance to actually create the file. Have you tried that? If so (if you’re seeing code that works on Vista but not Windows 7), please email me at christian.cantrell-at-adobe.com, and I’ll look into it.

I have made several attempts to install Adobe Air because it is required for me to run the EA Downloader. Everytime I try to open the intaller file, I just get a black window with nothing on it. PLEASE HELP!!!

    Hello,

I’m experiencing very strange problem. When I launch my AIR applications on Windows 7 applications doesn’t appear on the screen. I was testing it on few different Win7 installations and part of them works (but not all). After Alt+Ctrl+Del I can see that the process is running but there is no info in Applications tab. Do you have any idea what cause that problem?

    Best regards,
    Martin

    To Martin Klimek:

    I suspect it is Capabilities.screenResolutionX/Capabilities.screenResolutionY…

Try right clicking app in task bar and select “maximize” or select “move” and use cursor keys to return app to screen.

My company created an Air application and would now like to get a Certified for Windows 7 Logo. When we first attempted this the problem was we couldn’t actually sign the exe of the Air app, as it is internal and created at install time. Is there a way around this, maybe an installation custom action that can sign post install? I wouldn’t think we were the only company looking to put a Windows 7 Logo on our box. Thanks in advance for your input.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

I have an AIR app that I initially wrote on Windows 7 and have also used on a Mac. One person who uses it says my main window is “cut off” along the bottom on her Windows 7 machine, though I’ve never seen this on my Windows 7 machine. Also, on the Mac the problem doesn’t appear. Any ideas what’s going on? Or is there a forum I should post to? One possible issue is that the window is one created by my app — it’s not the “main” window. I don’t have a main window, since I don’t want my app to take up a slot on the task bar.

As in an earlier comment, I notice that the user directory is not understood in Windows 7. The AIR application doesn’t wotk in windows 7 Home Premium edition, there is no directory or file created in the user Directory. In Vista I don’t have this problem. Good to see the comments on resolving this issue, it worked for us.
