Flash Player 10.2.156.12 for Android is now available

Flash Player 10.2.156.12 is now available for download on Android Market.  This is a production GA (General Availability) release for Android 2.2 (Froyo) and 2.3 (Gingerbread) devices and an initial beta release for Android 3.0.1+ (Honeycomb) tablets that include Google’s system update (from 3.0 to 3.0.1). Learn more about this release here: http://blogs.adobe.com/flashplayer/2011/03/flash-player-10-2-now-available-for-mobile-devices.html.

New features include:

  • Hardware accelerated video presentation for H.264 (Android 3.0.1+ only) *
  • Deeper integration with the Android browser rendering engine (Android 3.0.1+ only)
    • Improved scrolling of web pages
    • Support for instances where HTML and other web content is composited over Flash Player rendered content.  Flash Player rendered content will continue to be placed in a separate window on top of HTML in the Android 2.2 and 2.3 browsers, as these browsers do not support the new Android 3.0 browser rendering model.
  • Performance improvements designed to take advantage of the current generation of multi-core, GPU*-enabled processors to deliver Flash videos
  • Automatic soft keyboard support

Adobe Flash Player 10.2.156.12 includes security enhancements described in Security Bulletins APSB11-02 (http://www.adobe.com/go/apsb11-02) and APSA11-01 (http://www.adobe.com/go/apsa11-01)

The release notes for Flash Player 10.2 can be found here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/895/cpsid_89556.html.

*These features have been turned off for the beta release of Flash Player 10.2.

Flash Player 10.2.152.32 (Win) and 10.2.152.33 (Mac)

Between Incubator and the 10.3 release, we FORGOT to post our first release update to the Runtime Releases blog. Sorry for the confusion, and the release notes will be updated this week.

Flash Player 10.2.152.32 (Windows) and 10.2.152.33 (Mac) addresses critical bugs, primarily related to video hardware acceleration:

* Windows users with systems using NVidia Optimus technology which has two GPUs that switch dynamically depending on the graphics operation would occasionally see a black screen when trying to view video in fullscreen (2745863). (My error: this is still a known issue that we are working on with NVidia)

* On Windows systems, AMD/ATI GPUs would not engage hardware decoding while watching H.264 video, causing a decrease in performance (2806826).

* Browser tab operations, such as switching between tabs playing video or closing many tabs displaying video, may have caused rendering problems or even a crash (2801091).

* Attempts to upload multiple files from an Apple Macintosh computer would fail due to a disk write error.     However, on Mac OS 10.4 and 10.5 systems, users may continue to find a limit on the amount of data they can upload at one time (2812090).
