Kevin Hoyt has put together an archive of PHP and Flex samples that should help any developer who is getting started with Flex and PHP. These samples include PHP and Flex code that uses the functionality from the AMF module of the Zend Framework, available in the 1.7 preview release. You’ll need to download the Zend Framework and install it before using the AMF samples from the archive.
If you’re just getting started with Flex and PHP, check out the Flex developer center’s PHP page for links to articles on getting started.
Do you visualize data with your Flex app, or do you think you will some day? Put another way, do you use charts or data grids?

A couple of weeks ago, the Adobe Flex page on Facebook broke 5000 fans. To celebrate, we’re giving away some awesome prizes, including the grand prize of a Macbook AIR with a copy of Adobe Creative Suite 4 Master Collection and Adobe Flex Builder 3 Professional. To enter, all you have to do is become a fan of our page, add the giveaway application, and then complete the short 3 question quiz.
Unfortunately, due to time constraints, we are only able to open up this contest in North America.
Remember – students and faculty from schools around the world can receive Flex Builder Professional for free by filing out the simple form.
Lee Brimelow and Matthew O’Phinney from Zend will be delivering a free e-seminar on Wednesday at 10 AM PT about using the Zend Framework and Flex and AIR together. They’ll go over the Zend Framework and the Zend AMF module that allows PHP developers to connect Flex applications to Zend Framework powered applications using AMF. You have to register for the e-seminar to attend.
Lee’s blog has a great overview of using Flash (and Flex) and PHP together.
The Adobe Developer Center is the best place to get started if you’re interested in using Zend and Flex together.
The e-seminar will be recorded, and assuming there aren’t any problems, we’ll post the recording on the PHP page of the Flex Developer Center within 2 weeks.
From October 19 to 23rd Adobe will have a booth at the Gitex Technology Week, in the Business Solution Area. The Adobe stand will be configured as a multi-level pavilion with two theaters for presentations and meeting rooms, and the stand will feature dedicated suites for customers to interact with product specialists and address specific technical issues.
So for any questions just track down Andrew Shorten at booth C4-20B in Hall 4, and get the answer to your Flex/AIR/Flash questions.
If you happen to be in Prague this week-end, drop by the Web-Expo and check out Tom Krcha, our new evangelist from Czech Republic presenting the new Flash Player 10. You will get a chance to see one of the first presentations in EMEA on the newly launched Flash Player. The conference will also host presentation on Flex and AIR given out by Asinus, a Czech system integrators, so try not to miss this opportunity.
It’s an exciting day as Flash Player 10 was released to the world. There are lots of cool features related to expressiveness, audio/video, and performance. But what if you aren’t a Flash CS4 user, what if you use Flex to build your Flash applications?
Never fear, Flex 3.2 is on the way! There are nightly builds of 3.2 available now that have the debug version of Player 10 along with configuration files and playerglobal.swc so that you can leverage new features. These SDKs additionally include nightly builds of the AIR 1.5 SDK, which means you can begin testing how you would leverage FP10 features in AIR.
We are waiting until the final build of AIR 1.5 before we officially release 3.2 (and we will have an updater for Flex Builder at the same time). This is still a little ways off. But go ahead and use the nightly build in the meantime! We do have some instructions for using the updated Player with Flex Builder but they may be a little out of date. It will be seamless with FB 3.0.2.
In the next couple of weeks we are attending a lot of events in Moscow, so if any of you want to hear more about Flex, the new Flash Player 10 and AIR try stopping at one of the following events to hear our presentations:
– The 4th Software Engineering Conference (Russia) 2008 SEC(R) 2008 – Adobe is one of the main sponsors, and you will have a chance to hear Enrique Duvos talk about Rich Internet Applications.
– Russian Internet Week is also on next week, and we will have a presence there as well: http://www.riw2008.ru/program/
– User Experience Conference will have Serge Jespers presenting.
– Russian Flex User Group is having a meeting on the 30th of October, so if you plan on attending we will also be there to present and answer questions.
