A hopeful set of New Year Resolutions

Do these resolutions matter to you? Do they map to what you’d like to do more of next year?  I can only speak for myself, but I’d desperately like to knock down a few of these this year and be better for it – on a creative level.  Read on and let me know how what your resolutions are…

In no particular order, here are my resolutions…You know I’m not going to get thru all this don’t you? 😉

  1. Change the look of this blog. You don’t have to tell me that you don’t come to this site for the looks! I’m not what you would call a ‘web guy’ and I’m more concerned about putting out content and information that people can use than a pretty site with nothing to show for it. However, I hope that Adobe will change over to a better blogging system (PLEASE!) or I’ll figure out a way to make this look just slightly more inviting.  Chance of happening – 85%
  2. Actually, use the tutorial content instead of just scan it:  I’ll admit it, I get a lot of books, CDs, DVDs, magazines and online subscriptions to terrific tutorial content with the idea that I can peruse the offerings and make recommendations to customers.  Well, I’d actually like to learn more this year by sitting down and watching them instead of just skimming.  The problem as with most things for a forty something professional is the amount of time it takes.  Chance of happening – probably a lot closer to 0% than I’d like to admit.  Let’s put it at 25%.  However, I expect I’ll get a little more time than I did last year so it’s still good. 😉
  3. Learn more products:  I really like learning, but it’s like the one above – it’s a matter of making time for it.  My new boss Terry White has asked us to make the time for it and I’ll give it a real shot because here’s the other thing:  I love learning.  If I could get paid to sit down and learn products all day, everyday, I’d be a happy man.  My main targets I am embarassed to say are Illustrator and Flash.  I know them a bit, but hey, I’ve got a long way to go.  Also up there would be learning a little programming/scripting, so I could become dangerous in the AIR environment (gonna be big!) and the Adobe Media Player. Since we’re officially dreaming, I’d also like to spend some time learning the ins and outs of After Effects’ scripting engine which is very powerful.  Chance of happening – about 50% partially.  I’d say AIR and AMP are about 0% for this year, but this is what New Year’s Resolutions are all about…OPTIMISIM!!!
  4. Tell more people, companies, educators, production houses, broadcasters, etc…about the value of Production Premium: Well, this one is pretty easy.  After all, it is my job!  However, I mention the obvious for two reasons.  First, I really believe in our product and so I really want to tell people about it.  Second, because my passion is genuine, I want you to know about it too and hopefully catch this fun infection! 😉 Chance of happening, 100%

So, there are four resolutions from a guy who doesn’t normally care about making them.  I hope you find them entertaining and inspiring.  Hopefully, I’ll achieve a number of them during the year.  I also hope to meet many of you over the course of 2008.  I’ll be visiting New York even more this year, but also have Chicago, Los Angeles, Florida and Tennessee all coming up before the end of March.  I’ll be posting when and where as we get closer to the days.  Have a fantastic and creative 2008!
