My colleague Steve and I were talking about the horrible sound that so many talking head videos have, and what would improve them. He suggested that the best thing would be to include some sort of Bluetooth (or similar) lapel microphone. That would make it easy to close-mic the talent without wires and, if the quality was any good, that one thing alone would significantly increase the average audio quality of all the video being shot today.

Well, I think Steve has a crystal ball (which I’m going to insist on borrowing) because Sony just announced exactly that. Well, it doesn’t come included with the camera, but is available in Japan for ¥21,000 (about $165) and I hope it will be available worldwide soon. The talking head videos of the world need it.

problem is the quality of BT audio is pretty crappy. you can get VHF or UHF stuff that’s been around for ages, try Shure or Audio Technica

I was thinking of the huge problem of the millions of older Americans who are having to buy hearing aids, which seem to be uncomfortable, awkward and expensive. Since bluetooth headsets are cheap and easy to get, why not marry one of them with some sort of microphone/telephone and have both a telephone and hearing aid all in one?

I have a bluethooth headset and I was wondering why the microphone funcion does not work with my PC applications. Does anyone have any suggestions? I really want to be able to use the microphone feature with dragn naturally speaking, but no luck even though it is shown as a device that can be used during configuration.

I did some research since I too was hoping that there was a microphone and earpiece using bluetooth for my poor hearing. I discovered what looked like what I would want.Last week I bought a bluetooth earphone and a lapel microphone kit. So far it’s worked well in the car at highway speeds making it possible to hear my wife without having to ask her to talk louder and face me.I’m hoping it’ll work when eating in a noisy restaurant so I’ll be able to hear my wife from across the table and be able to carry on a conversation. My hearing aids don’t allow me to hear well in a noisy environment. It can be configured to use with a bluetooth enabled cell phone at the same time it’s being used with the bluetooth microphone. It can also be used to just amplify sound as a regular hearing aid would. Possible 5 hour use before having to be recharged.

Just a note to reply to those who want to use a blue tooth headset to record on a pc…I have a scala 500 headset which uses the Blue Soliel software and the software price is reasonable… about $30 dollars (euro is 19.95).I record my sermons using the headset and it is quite good quality. You can search for Blue Soliel on a search engine and come up withe the web site.FYIHope it works for you
