It’s been a good day for the awards (or, rather, for me finding out about the awards). First, I just learned that the February 2007 issue of Videomaker Magazine picked Audition for Best Audio Editing Software and Encore DVD for Best DVD Authoring Software!

Also, digitalcontentproducer.com, which is the joint web site for Video Systems and Millimeter magazines, has awarded both Adobe Production Studio and DV Rack with their Vanguard 2006 award. In their own words, “The Vanguard Awards honor groundbreaking yet practical products that were introduced in calendar year 2006.”

(By the way, I haven’t mentioned it before but for those of you who shoot a lot of video, you owe it to yourselves to check out DV Rack. It allows you to capture direct to disc in the field, complete with scopes and other great shot-management tools. It is one of the great tools Adobe acquired with Serious Magic last October.)

This is great news.I’ve been using Audition for years when it was still known as Cool Edit (before it was purchased by Adobe), and it has by far been the best and most comprehensive audio editing software I’ve ever come across. I tried them all out from Fruity Loops, to AcidPro to Cakewalk etc. Cool Edit (I still call it Cool Edit out of habit) was simply a cut above the others. It had a better and easier to use interface, more options and filters, better editing capabilities (thought it does suffer a bit in terms of sequencing compared to some of the other programs), better mixing and mastering functions, better clip restoration techniques for incorporating samples etc. But anyway, glad to hear Audition (Cool Edit) is getting some well deserved accolades. When is the next version set to be released, and what are some of the new features and options it’s going to have? What about any possible compatibility features with other programs (for example, being able to export a Fruity Loops session as all .WAV files and then import into Audition?). Also, what about any sister suites or new plug ins that work with Audition despite also functioning as a stand alone program? I’d appreciate some feedback from anyone who is in the know on this. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.Alas, as many already know, I can’t comment further on what’s coming next in unannounced products. Thanks for your kind words and your story! –Hart
