I was at the IFRA 2007 in Vienna all this last week. It was impressive to see the amount of activity around publishing solutions built on InDesign and InCopy. There were too many solutions to photograph, name, and describe, but here are a few of the hi-lites:

CCI Europe announced that its NewsGate system will use InDesign and InCopy for layout and copy editing.

Not only did DTI’s stand contain soothing waterfalls, they announced their new Media Pool product.

SoftCare integrator Topix AG completed a K4 installation at Punkt.ch in Switzerland. According to the press release, “More than deploying an editorial system based on Adobe CS3, they created a comprehensive newspaper production system using the solutions ClassWizard, AdFactory, Claro, and others.”

WoodWing’s large stand was populated by numerous partners. WoodWing had multiple announcements at the show: SmartConnection 5, which adds support for Adobe’s CS3 releases, a new “Dossier” feature that packages multiple media types for stories, an updated Web Editor, Smart Links for managing the transmission of hi-res image data to InDesign, edition-based pagination, and more; Smart Newspapers, which is a set of tools and technologies integrated to facilitate the publishing of multiple media types to print, web and mobile devices.

WoodWing has also announced an update to it’s very useful Smart Styles and Smart Catalog plug-ins for InDesign.

AdLizard was one of the very first solutions to leverage InDesign on a server to create automated ad creation solutions.

Sansui Software was also there showing off some very interesting solutions for automated yellow-page creation.

The most interesting aspect of the show to me was to see what developers were doing with Adobe’s FLEX and AIR technologies. There will be exciting innovations in workflow and UI as integrators implement components built with these tools.
