Audition 3 and Windows Vista SP1 Compatibility

Over the weekend there were reports on our support forums from users having problems launching Audition 3 running the latest release of Windows Vista SP1. This problem was also reported yesterday in InformationWeek. Since these reports surfaced our engineering team has been working to determine what is causing it. So far we have only been able to re-create the problem once on a 64-bit version of Vista SP1. We have not been able to reproduce the issue on a 32-bit version of SP1. If any of you out there have experienced problems launching Audition 3 on Vista SP1 please leave a comment here with details of your system configuration.

The report in InformationWeek gave the impression that anyone trying to run Audition 3 on Vista SP1 would run into this issue. It appears from our tests to date that this is an isolated issue that is happening to a minority of users. As with any major operating system update, our engineering team did extensive testing prior to the launch of Vista SP1 to ensure Audition was compatible with this update. At this point it’s too soon to know what is causing the issue being reported, but rest assured we are working on it and will post an update once we know more.

LATEST UPDATE: To resolve these issues please download the Audition 3.0.1 patch here:

Audition worked before I installed SP1 and the latest updates, but it doesn't work anymore after that.

I have an Acer Aspire 5050, with everything in it's original state except I have Vista Home Premium, and 4 GB's Ram.

Hi, i use Vista 32 bit and before SP1 my Audition 3 worked perfectly.

After SP1 i can open Audition3, i can assing channels, i can do everything... but i notice several problems during the record of glitching, missing seconds of audio, and sometimes the record totally stops (the timeline and the timerecord continues to go on, but NOT the Wave writing on disk).

I updated audio driver, i reinstall the latest Asio driver of the Firewire Mixer (we use a Phonic HB24 MKII), i updated the Nvidia Drivers... i have tryed lots of things, but without success.

As i say, i use Vista Home Premium 32 bit, with an HP Notebook (Core 2 Duo 2 Ghz, 2 MB ddr2, 160 GB hard disk, Realtek audio HD ecc... ecc... i think is not important my hardware configuration, because before SP1 all works perfectly).

Greeting from Italy,
Alessandro

Hey Guys,

Please take a look at the following post on our Audition user forums.

I have posted a potential workaround for a “Data Execution Prevention” problem on Windows Vista 64 Bit SP1 that may help.

Thanks,

Hi, I have a problem too. I have installed Audition 3 on my Notebook Hp Pavilion Dv9700t, Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit, service pack 1 and with all the updates. Audition3 was installed but never worked.

Its clear that the problem only happens to the Vista SP1 64bit users.

Hi
I had the same problem. I changed "My documents" to its defult folder and my problem has been solved!!

Hi there,

After installing SP1 on my Vista 32-bit, Adobe Audition doesn't allow me to save any files (Mixdowns etc)..

Hello,

It is a 32 windows version, the woking language is German, The documents folde is in default setting.

The published path does definately NOT help.

What to do?

Hello,

Hi Folks,
Please download the Audition 3.0.1. patch. This should resolve the Vista 64-bit SP1 issues.

I had not used Audition since 1.5. This week I needed something better than Soundbooth CS4, and downloaded a trial of Audition 3.0.

First computer is an Intel Board DQ35J, Intel Quad Processor. 8 GB DDR2 RAM, running Vista Ultimate 64 SP1. Master Colletion CS4 installed, no problems detected.

When Audition is initiated, an error appears: "To Protect your computer, Audition has had to stop." Error leads to the "Data Execution Prevention" system. I then turned DEP off for every executible file I can find for "audition," the error still appears and still stops.

Event log simply says Event 1000. Details only state that it stopped with same DEP message. Unknown faulting module. Event viewer shows no other event recorded.

I then designated the executible file to "run as Windows XP SP3." Same stop and same error.

Downloaded the trial version to a PC- ASUS motherboard, Intel socket 775 dual core processor, 8 GB DDR2 RAM, running Windows XP 64 SP3. Audition trial runs fine.

Hope this helps. Feel free to contact me.

Following recent post, I downloaded 3.0.1 patch 4237. Audition progresses farther. I now get an Audition error: "cannot locate any supported audio device."

Running Vista Ultimate 64 SP1.

Motherboard is Intel DQ35J with onboard audio:

-Intel High Definition Audio Interface, 4-channel (2 +2).

-Realtek ALC268-GR Audio Codec.

Hi, I have a problem too. I have installed Audition 3 on my PC-Hp m9038hk, Windows Vista Home premium 32bit,Audition3 was installed but never worked.

Are there some Solutions for me?

I have downloaded your patch and it still didn't fix the problem. I can't even open the program. I'm running a 64 bit version of Windows Vista on a Dell Studio PC with all standard settings. The only version of Audition I can get to somewhat run on here is 1.5.

I just now transferred my Audition 3.0 from Vista 32 bit to 64 bit and got the dreaded DEP warning. I came to Adobe's sight, did a quick search and voila, the fix was right there to download. Thanks guys

Hi
i am having vista home premium 32 bit.its creating processing noise when there is nothing to process.kuoooooonnnnnn...... while recording in adobe audition the same noise is coming in my recording.what to do ??? mail me.please suggest me some thing

The solution is this patch of adobe...

Bye guys...

I still can't get it to work, even with the patch. windows 64 bit on hp. I keep getting a DEP protection pop up that automatically closes Audition. Turned it off but still get the same.

I am using Vista Home Edition with SP2 and trying out the Audition 3.0 program. However, I get the dreaded "cannot find the audio" message. The codec is Realtek and I have used Audition 2.0 before and it worked fine. What is the solution to make Audition 3.0 work?

I changed "My documents" to its defult folder and my problem has been solved!!

the audition 3.0.1 patch does not solve the "could not find supported audio device" in vista 64 sp2. audition is NOT a 64 bit app and it is UNSTABLE on vista 64 sp2. prove me wrong sometime this year.

Hi Cemego,
The error you're getting doesn't have anything to do with Vista 64. It's most likely a device driver issue.

We'll have someone from our support team contact you to figure out what's causing this error.

Regards,
Lawson

So what was the solution?

We have used Audition going back to when it was Cool Edit Pro. Ironically, the old programs worked well on Windows 98 and XP, but after installing Audition 3 on VISTA, we get the error message "Cannot find supported audio device". First of all, what kind of audio device does Audition support? Is there a fix for this?

Thanks,

Dave Hutcheson

It's happening to me now, and I should've heard my brother when he told me to stay with pro-tools, it is just an other pc program, you can keep the $349, I will guarantee that many other don't fall in the same windows games and their cheap programs.

I've already installed the above mentioned file-patch, but I still get an error: "Adobe Audition could not find a supported audio device. Please check your device settings". I have a HP Pavilion dv6 notebook, windows vista home premium service pack 2, 64 bits. Thanks for the help.

I had the same issue after updating 32 bit SP1 and i read the post that said to change "my documents" in the start menu back to it's default...it worked instantly. thank you

Hi,
same problem - a brand new installed clean Windows 7. no modifications done so far by any programme like Tune Up or similar ones. The error message I get is: .. could not find a supported audio device. please check device settings.
Have installed the latest Realtek HD 2.35 driver and don't know what to do now. Any suggestions ?

Add this to the list - I just rebuilt my system with Windows 7, 64bit. Before this I was running Vista SP1 64-bit and both AA2 and AA3 worked fine.

I got the 7 machine built, installed AA2, then AA3, and both fired up without any issues - and that is using the drivers Windows picked out for my audio card which is a SoundMAX HD (chip is really an ADI1988AB).

Now, this evening I went to fire up AA2 and start editing a podcast and got the dreaded "audition could not find a supported audio device" error. Between today and last night nothing changed. No patches, no reboots, nothing. AA3 still fires up ok, but I need AA2 for editing podcasts (I need to adjust the edges of clips in groups without adjusting ALL clips in the group - on a side note, it drives me nuts that this was changed and we don't have an option of using the AA2 functionality, but nobody cares so I've given up on that battle).

Anyway, I've since tried every compatability mode, installing the official Win7 drivers for my card, deleting my AA2 profile folder, and nothing works. Doesn't make a lick of sense does it?

Okay Adobe,

Here's my two cents. This IS a 64-bit problem.

I am running a Gateway FX7026 that I've had up and running for over a year now. (Intel Core2 QUAD 9300, 8GBs DDR2 RAM).

I had a RAID error that forced me to replace the failing HD. I replace the drive, rebuilt the RAID, then proceeded to restore the ENTIRE system from ZERO, (using the supplied DVDs from Gateway).

THAT installation went fine! Vista 64-bit was up and running like a new kitten. Installed ALL of the updates from Gateway for the system's drivers. Installed the Vista service packs one by one. Everything was still going well at that point.

Adobe CS4 Production Premium installed just fine. (Although, I DID run into the whole "DEP" error with it at first.) The system's performance DOES seem to be a GOOD BIT SLOWER than what I remember. (ie. renders seem to take FOREVER now).

Installed Audition 3. Seemed to be fine. Installed okay. Went to use it, everything was reactive and smooth. Installed the Audition 3 patch. Went to use AA3 again, THEN I got the "can't locate any supported audio hardware".

Once AA3 is shut down, something happens THEN. I say this, because I am now haveing to uninstall, then REinstall AA3 EVERYTIME I need to use it.

The "integration" between AA3 and CS4 is perfectly USELESS now...

And, in MY opinion, growing VERY quickly, so is Adobe's developers and their support from the public that is quickly waning from this OBVIOUS LOSS LEADER.

You know, you guys USED to be the TOPS, (for PC), in my book. I PAY for EVERY LICENSE that I've EVER HAD. I do so to support future development and up-to-date support for current programs.

I'd get this problem together rather quickly. You really ARE close to NOT HAVING A JOB complaining about users like me. If support like this continues for professionals that have stuck by you from the initial "takeover", you'll have no product to sell..... SOON.
