"Executable Internet" survey

"Executable Internet" survey: David Rubinstein in Software Development Times surveys ways to "do, not just look" on the web... mentions Altio, Curl, Droplets, Laszlo, Versalent and Vultus... but "'Macromedia Inc.'s entry has given the space legitimacy', [said John Dalton of Forrester]. 'Macromedia is a giant that will keep pressure on the space' to grow and mature, he said. 'The space needs a giant. It's not about "skip intro" and goofy animation. That's starting to change.' As an example, he cited MacromediaĆs announcement of Central, a way to deliver and use Flash applications on occasionally connected computers." There's also the interesting point made about learning costs, and how current non-Flash developers don't want to deal with the layout/timeline freedom in the Macromedia Flash MX authoring tool... that Royale sneakpeek may be helpful, once it really gets out into the world.
