Historical gaming

Historical gaming: Greg Costikyan is apparently researching constants in gameplay design... on Oct 12 and Oct 17 he reviews three books covering indoor games people played in the 19th and 20th centuries. (Permalinks are showing an error for me, so please scroll down to these entries.) Today's games (and other addictive user experiences!) add many additional factors, but it can be valuable to go back, to see which aspects were adopted during slower word-of-mouth, and which types of interactive experiences people kept on coming back for, decade after decade.
