Flickr goes Lickr

Flickr goes Lickr: Neil Kandalgaonkar produces a client for Flickr photo-sharing which uses advanced HTML/JS rather than SWF. It works in those Firefox browsers which have installed the Greasemonkey extension, which rewrites existing pages during viewing. I haven't compared the user experience of this implementation to the one that Flickr has been using for awhile now. Interesting quote: "Lately I've been considering Lickr as an experiment in web politics. Exactly how far can the users go in controlling a website? Right now I'm at the point where I can stop thinking about just duplicating Flickr; I can think about adding features." This is a big issue with Greasemonkey now -- we-all never really resolved the issues behind screenscraping, which seems distinct from a content provider voluntarily offering webservices. I'm not sure how this round will turn out, but I enjoy watching the evolution.
