Macromedia acquires Futurewave
Macromedia acquires Futurewave: Circa 1997... this WIRED news item was probably on many "Flash Anniversary" links last week, but I got it from Anil Dash. It's sorta funny: "Macromedia breathed new life into a largely overlooked Web technology on Monday when the company announced its acquisition of FutureWave Software for an undisclosed sum. Despite a high-profile foray with the Simpsons Web site for the Microsoft Network, FutureSplash Animator has not exactly become a household name among Web surfers. Enter Macromedia.... As part of Macromedia, FutureSplash will be renamed Flash. Flash, available now for US$249, is a vector-based graphics plug-in that allows Web developers to build images into their pages that can scale up and down in size. If a user wants to zoom in on a small object within a picture or map, he or she can click on the image and get an enlarged view without any degradation of the image." Wow, you can make things bigger without getting blurry, imagine the possibilities.... ;-)
