Byer on PS/MacTel

Byer on PS/MacTel: There's an early release of the next version of Adobe Photoshop up on Adobe Labs, for registered owners of the previous version -- it really isn't a Labs-y two-way "guide us" kind of exploratory release, but Labs was the easiest way to do the download. John Nack and others have more direct info than me, but I wanted to pull out this line from Scott Byer: "We are doing this mostly because we wanted to get the Macintosh Universal Binary of the product into your hands as soon as we could. It really wasn't possible to do that with an updated CS2, it really did take that much effort, and it really wasn't ready until recently. But then, it wouldn't be fair to do just a beta on the Mac side and not let the Windows users along for the ride." Scott previously had info on porting to Intel-based Macintosh, but people out in the world were still hurting, caught between hardware cycles and software cycles. I've personally seen that this pain factor has been the major driving force behind this unusual pre-release, and I'm really happy that the team found a way to relieve customer pain before the actual final release of the software. My appreciation also to the exec team and other groups inside Adobe who helped bring this about.
