Device UI

Device UI: The link goes to a Samsung press release today, which confirms that their new F700 Ultra Smart phone uses Adobe Flash Lite as the user interface layer. The phone is getting significant attention on Techmeme today... thanks to Ryan Stewart for raising the flag on the Flash Lite UI. Samsung has been a leader in software-based device interfaces... easier to customize, easier to style, than tightly-coupled low-level UI work. In similar vein, Robert M. Hall had news this weekend of positions available at Software As Art, a group of Flash founders who seem to be moving into consumer devices. Adobe's job is to connect the designer/developer workflow to the entire world of publishing opportunities... just as PostScript renders the same on every printer, we've got to get make it easy and economical to create user interfaces for any device, regardless of brand or form factor. It'll take awhile, but the continuing Samsung work in Flash UI is a big vote of confidence that the public actually responds to such work. The future is coming.... ;-)
