PostScript of the Web
PostScript of the Web: Engadget talks about a new candybar-style phone from KDDI, the Infobar 2... looks attractive, with a 240x400 pixel display on one half, and plastic keyboard on the other. Engadget links a lot to itself but not to the source info (boo hiss), but the KDDI press release (machine English) confirms that the Infobar 2 will include the Adobe Flash rendering engine. I've been using a Nokia 800 lately, a Linux handheld with 480x800 display and Adobe Flash Player 9... the screen is like four of the KDDI Infobar 2 displays side by side, but both devices render a scalable SWF file. Same as your big computer display, and the multi-monitor setup of the guy down the hall. All those screens, all rendering SWF. The Player technology really is becoming the PostScript of the Web, enabling one set of development skills to traverse different brands, different displays, different formfactors... any device with a screen. It's happening.
