GNU PDF

GNU PDF: The Free Software Foundation is working on PDF readers and writers... more info from Bruce Byfield at Linux.com today. I like that they're focusing on ISO 19005 and 32000 (the PDF/A and PDF 1.7 specs), as well as the XMP and SFA metadata and forms support... seems less ad-hoc than some of the commercial PDF renderers or FSF's Gnash project... if they can help assist reaching predictable, full functionality then that's all for the good. Something that's particularly fascinating in the Linux.com article is how, the deeper you look, the more PDF does... none of the existing opensource implementations were quite up to the task, so they're approaching the coding anew, with a target of the full ISO 32000 (PDF 1.7) specification.
