Hantro, mobile video
Hantro, mobile video: This story confused me when I first heard it awhile back... the current press release is clearer, but I wanted to buttress the message. On2 Technologies makes a video codec used in Adobe Flash Player, and their recently acquired Hantro division makes video acceleration chips. A Hantro-enhanced mobile device offloads video playback to a dedicated chip -- hardware acceleration. Result is that Flash Lite video using the On2 codecs can play back much more easily on mobile devices which include a Hantro chip, with no transcoding or other tricks necessary. It's good news.
